Hi,

Is there anyway to play Civi 7 without ages on. I have played all the Civs, 5 being my favourite and just got to the end of an age and i am like WTH is going on here. I seem to have lost any technical advantage, i've become someone else and all my tropps have changed plus I seem to have lost 500 years LOL. So is there a way I am missing to just play Civ like Civ? Thanks

Thank you, i did alot of reading up yesterday. For what it's worth i'll go back to modded Civi 5 until they allow us to play proper Civi. I guess some like this new version just seems very odd you'd come away from a concept that has been awesome for well over a decade and do what they have done. Oh well. Happy New Year to you all!

The reason Kodak company collapsed is that they didn't want to come away from a concept of analog photography, that had been awesome for them for many decades, and go towards digital one. FXS took the risk and... we will see what will happen after the next updates :) Happy New Year!

For the record, Kodak's decision is often portrayed as an example of good strategy - they continued generating profits for a long time until their end was planned. I wouldn't want this strategy for Civilization, for sure, though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Nokia replaced them as the cautionary tale these days.

Nokia was totally different story, where Microsoft exploited their big shareholding package and, ignoring interests of minor shareholders, sacrificed Nokia trying to keep Windows Phone alive.

Kodak is an example that commercially successful strategy not necessary involves company surviving long.

Sadly, no. Ages is the main culprit of most of Civ 7 problems, but they are apparently absolutely ingrained in the game, to the point that the game is literally split into 3 mini games. When you transition from one Age to the next, the whole map is recreated.

Civ7 reminds me more of "New Coke" and less of Blackberry or Kodak. That is to say, innovation doesn't always win you the day, that's just cherry picking.

To me its like Halo Infinite, Dragon Age Veilguard, etc

Innovation is fine, but when you change your core game, then you ruin it

It's funny watching people default to games like Veilguard when DA2 was even more of a "core game" modification compared to Origins (in a similar vein, ME2 vs. ME and previous KotOR-style games).

I feel old, don't mind me. And I'm not even that old :D This stuff is surprisingly cyclic.
