Ok i followed your guys tips and i was doing great!!! I was the most powerful civilizatoin and i had the best military units....I gathered up all of my swordsman Knights i went into the English (they were really close) i went to attack the first city and it took all my ten men to take out one person!!!! then they came in and destroyed my civilizatoin.....Why does one Warroir beat all my people? IT pisses me off i should have kicked their ASS i need some major military tips...leavce you suggestions.

were all ten of your units horsemen/swordsmen? and you lost all ten to a warrior? That should never happen, i would guess less than a 0.1% chance of it happening...But there does seem to be a bug of sorts in the random number generator that Civ3 uses that causes certain units to be invincible on a particular turn. There were several threads that discussed this a month or two ago.

As far as tips go, you have the main one already, i.e., always try to conquer using overwhelming force. There isn't a lot you can do to conteract the wacky number generated results in this game.

ok well basically i had like 4 spearmen and 3 swordsman and 3 knights. Anyways i went to the city and the warrior was fortified on it...I figured that i would be able to take himj out with one blow tih my knight but he killed me...then kept trying and tyring and he kept killing me. on a few occasions i would go up to him and he would be down to his last red square but then out of the blue he took me down from my green and killed me....this is pissing me off....someone should make a fix for this lame ****!

I've had that happen to me too.

What I do (yeah it's kind of cheating) is make sure auto-save is on and load the previous turn and then do something different before the attack. This seems to get the number generater off slaughter I know is otherwise coming. I try to finish all other movements first (i.e. workers) and attack last.

Hope it helps.

Was the city above size 6 or did it have city walls? Was it built on a hill? Was it across a river? There's a lot more to combat than just the 2 units who are fighting.

A few things,

First take along some (maybe alot of) catapults. Bombard the defenders down. Ideally, bombard untill all the defenders are at half hit points or less. This will reduce your losses and let you know completely what is in the cities.

Second if you have a string of bad luck and become weak, stop attacking! Fall back to your territory, gain back lost hitpoints, build a few units to replace losses. then go at it again. Have a back up plan and know when to quit.

Third, you really shouldn't have lost many knights. Most should have fallen back after losing hit points to the warrior.
