AI America starts as vassal idea?

I had an idea where if the US is an AI player, it will spawn in ~1700 and flip all cities controlled by the civ with the most cities in the flip zone. Then, the colonial civ will be asked whether they wish to grant limited autonomy. Saying yes would make them into a vassal state (though they will declare independence if they lose a lot of cities or they become more powerful later), and if not, war will be declared. For the human player, the assumed answer would always be no. This could apply to other post-colonial civs, though the Mohawks would have to be ticked up a bit. What do all of you think of this?

Maybe by a certain date, their likelihood of declaring independence increases greatly? For example, once at 1775, then one every 25 years, so as it gets later it is harder and harder to hold on? I just don't like the fact that America magically appears out of nowhere without any context.

Perhaps one might also ask why Greece seems to magically appear, or the Mayans, or the Japanese, when no other civilizations spawn in the area or have cities. In terms of the game, it is hard to define why these civs spawn and when without citing history. With America (and the other civs), we can point and say that 1775-6 are when the United States actually became an entity (although irl, it was much later in terms of unity). As such, to bump America down to 1700, a completely arbitrary date, and make their spawn highly dependent on colonial settlement is an odd idea in my opinion. Also, I can see the potential for some serious coding issues, or so I would presume.

Thank you for saying this. The only reason why America would be treated differently here is American exceptionalism.

There are almost always European civs on the east coast anyway, so in the rare cases where there aren't, just pass it off as 1776 is when they finally made it.

I always see America spawning with no previous cities on East Coast as rag-tag stateless immigrants whom no other colonies will accept finally reaching enough influence to be counted as a state.

Did Leoreth consider my idea that USA should start with the unit/building art of the dominant state in N. America at it's spawn?

I think he did.

Sorry, I was only making fun of the third person thing. That's maybe something more of a VD thing, because the base mod uses the simple rule of using the graphics from the cvilization infos. And even then it would probably too messy to implement.

Ok, so it is a whole different method from some of the City-Styles changes, like the Aztecs adopting Mediterranean art if Christianity becomes state-religion? Also... maybe those cosmetics should be dropped with Mexico in now.

The Aztecs only change their city art with VD. I could do something like that there too. It's just more complicated because I would actually have to save what kind of culture America emerged from, because I cannot determine that on the fly.
