What's your view on AIs pursuing cultural victories? I like it adds a lot more variety to the game IMO.

Here's a recount of the last couple of games I've had:

First one randomly got Saladin(haven't played him since Vanilla it seems:confused: ), playing on a lakes map, Monarch level standard speed.
Get a pretty mean start with two gold, reasonable amount of food and lots of hills :) , I'll get Marble after my 3rd expansion. I build the Great Wall and get a couple of Great Spies and use them on Pacal II and get a good amount of techs off him. Meanwhile with my gold and marble I Oracle Fuedalism and beeline guilds, backfilling with Pacal Espionage.

I have a pretty good tech pace but its nothing compared to Pacal.

I Vassalize Frederick then Ghandi. Then Ragnar declares on my and dances around my borders for ages before bribing Genghis in  . Meanwhile Pacal is up to Communism after ripping away with tech, his turns remaining are 602? Thought it was due to anarchy or something.

Anyway I continue on my vassalization campaign taking Ragnar then Genghis. Turn my sights onto Alex who had been pretty quiet for a hundred turns which of course means a decent sized stack cavalry, no match of course for my infantry ;) . One magastack down and one city captured he's ready to capitulate, Domination hadn't triggered so I set my sights on Pacal.

He still has 200 turns to go on Communism! Then it clicked, he's going cultural. Seeing as he hadn't even researched gunpowder I guess you can guess the outcome.

Second one got Zara Yaqob of the Ethiopians on a big small map same settings as above.

The big continent turns out to have me plus 5 AI so some unlucky bugger is isolated, turns out to be Genghis. Isabella draws the short straw for a sword rush. I take most of her cities but Mehmed and Huyana jump on the bandwagon and get a city of hers each, annoyingly Huyana culture bombs a city right in the middle of my empire. In hindsight I should have captured that city but my starting lands were pretty poor and I was falling behind in tech.
Down the Southeast of the continent Gilgamesh in snapping up all the wonders and looks distinctly like he's going cultural.
Many turns go by and I'm umming and ahhing about attacking someone but everybodies a bit too buddy-buddy. The modern era comes around and Huyana and I are having a bit of a cold-war, I'm the man of course because I have defensive pacts with both Pacal and Mehmed :goodjob: .

I check the power graphs and Huyana Mehmed and I have pretty much equally strong armies, when I flick to culture I see that Gilgamesh is going for cultural and doing a pretty good job Uruk was pulling around 900cpt and he still had a good research rate. I do some calculations and realise I can crank a spaceship before he wins.

Genghis had done some different calculations and realised that he wasn't going to win and declares on Gilgamesh  . As he's still only got rifles I quietly slip him all visible techs including Assembly line and combustion. Pretty much a non event though a few Great Generals got born but nothing else happens until Huyana gets in on the attack and declares on Gilgamesh as well  finally he moves his massive stack out of his culture bombed city and promptly captures one of Gilgamesh's Legendary city contenders  .
Then the nukes fly :nuke: my defensive pact with Mehmed ends  and Gilgamesh capitulates to Huyana there were so many announcements that I missed about 10 pop-ups. Turns out Mehmed had declared on Gilgamesh in the interturn, unleashed his entire payload onto every inch of Sumerian land (must have been pretty pissed about those close borders spewing out of Uruks culture) He had -24 for you nuked us for Gilg.

Meantime I've kicked of 2 golden ages and just launched my Spaceship, turned the science slider to 0, started upgrading all my troops and clicked end turn for 11 turns until I reached Alpha Centauri for the win.
I love a happy ending.

The thing which made me laugh the most was the turn I won I got to witness a spaceship lift off from Istanbul:lol: too late buddy.

What I'm most pleased to see is that AI's will react to cultural victories and try and prevent them, especially when it's another AI.

I got Louis trying to go for a culture victory in my last game. Too bad for the AI, that good relations mean nothing to me, and that pumping up the culture slider and losing out on techs makes razing one legendary city and capturing Paris all to easy...
