Air superiority

Yesterday I played a Noble, epic, standard size, medium-and-small game with Lincoln of USA. When I reached the modern age, things turned to be surprisingly similar to real-life USA military doctrine. It was a big war revolving around ar superiority and carrier-based attacks, making extensive use of USA unique, the SEAL.

I started in a medium continent, with Mr. Orange and Hapterdontknow, conquered Dutch guy and Miss Skinny turned into my voluntary vassal. I circumnavigated by about 1300 AD. In the other continent there were Mansa Musa paradisiaca, Ragnar, Qin and Asoka. None of their concern were mine, so I went into peacefully teching (and military building, for safety) until the 20th century. But by then, Qin managed to conquer almost all of his big continent, vassalizing Ragnar and Mansa Musa, and was preparing a final push on Asoka. I had beelined to Advanced Flight, got the jet fighters and choppers, while Qin was researching Robotics, so I decided it was my last chance to halt his killing spree. Qin had lots of tanks, fighters, marines, machine guns and regular infantry, I got almost no tanks and few artillery, but quite a handful of choppers, jet fighters, mech infs, carriers and seals. So I definitely had air superiority and anti-tank capabilities.

It was not really hard, as he was dumb enough to keep on pursuing Asoka - who I could turn into another voluntary vassal due his desperation - and not building enough ships even when I was ripping through his original lands with my troops.

Nevertheless, I'm posting this because it may somehow beat the skepticism over Navy SEALs and Gunships, and it's a good demonstration of the power of air superiority through Advanced Flight.

Have fun: http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/114650/Lincoln_AD-1959-January.CivBeyondSwordSave

Just think if you were able to have dive bombers during WWII with your carriers that could actually sink enemy ships! That would be American Airpower! Try the Wolfshanze Mod in your next game and have fun with Airpower! (see sig).

Why I costantly get the impression Wolf runs from topic to topic to advertise his mod?
XD

However yes, me love choppers. Blitz choppers are teh awsmness! °v°

Maybe it's the zillions of dollars I make from each download of the mod!?!?!

By the way, have you played my mod lately? :mischief:

...but seriously... I think the good Herr Doktor might enjoy it... which is why I plugged it... I don't make a cent either way.

I bet his profession is second-hand car seller. :)

No offense though, I've downloaded his mod and enjoyed it. But playing CIV is one thing, playing mods is another, in my humble opinion. Most often I'm in the mood of getting the original flavor, not the fancy ones.

But, YES, Wolf, I play your mod. ;)

But now for the $64,000 question, Herr Strangelove... what happens when your enemy realizes there is a doomsday gap and starts hitting you with Kong's nuclear specials?

Hehehe... They didn't got the nukes, but I've built SDI later, anyway. I could have nuked them, but... well... I was playing the USA, the Good Cop of the World, I even returned every city the VERY HONORABLE PEOPLE OF PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA had captured to their original owners. A freedom fighter I was, how could I be so mean?...

What?!!! Hiro-what?!!!

I know, I know. I know because I'd do the same XD
However no. I've tried it, but as I'm yet struggling to get to end game at Noble/Prince, your changes are very rarely seen. Maybe I'll scale down and try it better. ;)

I'm too drunk to decipher what everyone else is saying, but i just have to comment on how great lincoln's traits are. chm and phi work so well together early game. being able to grow your city to a much larger size early on is huge if you have a good food start. that is in multi-player. I've actually never been able to play america to the point of getting navy seals, but hey, lincoln freaking rocks.

ps: yay for being able to type this message without a misspelling or curse word. it was actually kind of hard

who doubted SEALS?? Naval invasions against the AI is incredibly imbalanced.

Have been playing some modern/industrial starts with Lincoln. Being able to run pacifism with engineer specialists from the get-go (with early-game GP rates) is pretty fantastic. There are "Great Engineer has been born in _____!" happening before the next age

I like playing as Lincoln because he doesn't pop up on screen at 2 am scaring the hell out of you as an opponent. Eeewww.

Um... doesn't this mean you'd rather play against him, because if you were him he'd never pop up, leaving the other scary leaders to pop up and...

Oh, never mind. Lincoln rocks! :)
