ok, gonna revisit a previous idea because of some BTS changes. currently we dont use the air mechanics at all ...so ...

how about ...
-- fireballs use the fighter plane mechanic
-- meteor use the bomber mechanic and only summon 1 instead of 3.
-- water elementals (invisible in water , naval unit so it has the new naval abilities)
-- earth elemental (can bombard cities aka wreck walls and defenses, can flank siege engines)
-- fire elementals ( auto pillage squares they pass through , cant enter water )
-- air elementals ( handle as fighters aka both attack and defensive duties)
-- many other summons could be changed to the fighter or bomber mentality
-- add more depth to archers allowing for interception of air targets.
-- building : conjurers tower - allows the summoning(building) of a summoned unit based on the mana available , this summon will last for 3 turns
-- buildings: elemental academies - allows building of the elemental type . permanent unit however limited by the number of that type of academy owned.

thoughts?

I don't think that implementation like this would make game better or bring more fun. I personally wouldn't like building elementals or summons. Especially if they'd last only 3 turns (and imagine poor AI biulding units that disappear!)

That said, flying mechanic is already planned, in slightly different implementation :)

1. fireballs and meteors must use rocket mechanic, I think.
2. water elementals: invisible in water - yes, naval unit - no.
3. earth elemental - good idea.
4. fire elementals - very nice! One more idea: they can't cross river.
5. air elementals must be like helicopter with ability of flying over seas (like in Sevomod).

I like fireballs as it is now and mostly elements are cool too (sure, water should be able to waterwalk, wind to fly over mountains etc, but I'm not certain how it is right now).

Actually, .25 air elementals don't have the water walking promotion, they have flying. This is like water walking, but also gives the unit +1 moves, the ability to move through impassible terrain, flat movement costs, and no benefit from using roads. The same goes for fireballs, meteors, etc.

Yeah "flying" is implemented in 0.25 exactly as mentioned. Additionally it is a key that can allow spell immunity. So for example flying creatures are immune to the entangle spell.

so, might we get a range of flying units, as was mentioned in the old thread? (luchuirp planes, kuriotate wyvern riders, order/viel airships, maybe even lanun air pirate... maybe even calabim vampires turning into bats:p)

I didn't know you have made "flying" promotions. That's cool! Dragons, griffons, etc...

For some reason, dragons do not have this promotion (although I tend to mod it so they do); despite their impressive wingspan, they are bound to the ground. Grifins do start with flying.

i think i need to play around with "flying" a little bit more. it seems like the current use that is in FFH is just a type of movement promo.

what i was intending is closer to the aircraft mechanic. in BTS aircraft can pass over 1 group of hostiles to attack another. My point on air elementals as aircraft is so they can airbase and patrol cities (and thus intercept other flying units like fireballs). my reasoning for water elementals as naval units instead of just having water walking is to allow them the commands that are now available (like blockading and protecting resources).

ALOT of tactical abilities were added to BTS that are so far being ignored. and soo many units fall into areas to allow for these new tactics that i thought it would make sense to fit them in.

Basium angels should be able to fly. I`d also like to see eagles for the Elves, maybe a Roc (giant eagle) as a hero unit triggered by a discovery/event. Gyrocopters with bomb capacity for the Dwarves..

Given that BTS apparently lets more than one civ have units in the same square (I've had scouts sharing squares with AI scouts), shouldn't it be possible to code a variable for altitude for flying units?
