Airbus beats Boeing in US air tanker deal

So, now are you guys going to buy some of our stuff if we can give you a better bid?
We buy stuff from you guys all the time...

The Danish military bought M113 APC, M270 Rocket Launchers, M-109 howitzers, F-16 Fighters, C-130Hercules and recently we are part of the funding for the devellopment of the F-35 JSF...

I don't think it is "Anyone" but I know that France has defense agreements with a lot of former French colonies in Africa and that might contribute.

Didn't they have a weapons deal with Libya? And with Saddam Hussein's Iraq (even when the US started considering him a baddy)? And I thought they were pushing for the China embargo to be lifted. I'm not sure about any of this, as I'm no foreign policy expert, but it seems to me France likes to support dodgy regimes to sell them weapon. So the US should have no problems. :mischief:

Once we have the aircraft we will also have a supply of spare parts. There are no critical parts for that type of aircraft that we could not reproduce in a few months time if we lost the supplier. And the maintenance problems on a proven commercial airliner are pretty light to begin with.

Just for the record, I was not trying to demonize France when I said that. I very much doubt it would ever happen, but it is not impossible. I am just as troubled over M1 tubes being bought from Germany, for example. Heck, I'd not even like the UK being involved in anything we need for our military. All of our military hardware should be "home grown", 100%.
As long as we have the capability to do so should we need to, why does it matter?

So now the Democrats are trying to blame McCain for Airbus winning the deal. Pathetic.

So a Senator nails a rip-off contract against the wall, forces the contractor to actually provide a good product at a competitive price, and when another outside competitor achieves that, the Senator is somehow "negatively intervening".

Gotta love those Democrats.

That's stupid, indeed. I really hope this won't turn into another Freedom Fries thing.
