Several media outlets have interviewed Firaxis about Civ VII. This page aims to collect articles that either:
  • Have an interview with Firaxis conducted by that media outlet
  • Have hands-on gameplay experiences

For the up-to-date list, please view our main page article. This post contains the items we were aware of on August 22nd

So far, we have found, listed alphabetically by the news outlet. Unless otherwise noted, they are gameplay previews.
  • Ars Technica - "Civilization VII hands-on: This strategy sequel rethinks the long game"
  • BBC - Interview of Ed Beach - "London through the ages inspires Civilization VII"
  • Eurogamer - Includes interviews of Ed Beach and Andrew Frederickson - "Civilization 7 pairs seismic changes with a lovably familiar formula"
  • Game Developer - "Firaxis' big swing with Civilization VII? Convincing players to actually finish their games" (August 23rd)
  • Games Hub - "Sid Meier’s Civilization VII preview – possibly the freshest sequel yet"
  • GameRant - "Civilization 7 Hands-On Preview: Creating Your Legacy"
  • IGN - "Civilization 7: The First Preview"
  • IGN - "Civilization 7 Interview: Firaxis Answers All of Our Questions About the Anticipated Sequel" (August 22nd)
  • PC Gamer - "Civilization 7 hands-on: Huge changes are coming to the classic strategy series"
  • PCGamesN - "Civilization 7 is still Civ, even as it shakes up the strategy formula"
  • The Verge - "Civilization 7 lets you mix and match history — and it’s a blast"

In addition, the following articles exist based on first-hand experiences or interviews in languages other than English:
  • Dutfch: gamer.nl - "Gespeeld: Civilization 7 moet langer je aandacht vasthouden" ("Played: Civilization 7 should hold your attention longer")
  • Japanese: 4gamer.net - Gameplay review and interview:「シドマイヤーズ シヴィライゼーション VII」でシリーズが大きく変わる!("Sid Meier's Civilization 7 brings big change to the franchise!")

4gamers.net – 「シドマイヤーズ シヴィライゼーション VII」でシリーズが大きく変わる! 蛮族や労働者が登場せず,海洋につながる行動が可能な河川を追加 (Sid Meier's Civilization 7 brings big change to the franchise! There's no barbarians nor workers, and navigable rivers are added)

The article is quite lengthy, have both gameplay experiences and developer interview.

I've added both of those to the list, good finds! I've also added a list to the main page in the first post, and the main page version will be the one that will be kept updated.

(This also means that yes, if you find additional articles in languages other than English that are based on gameplay sessions or interviews, post them as well. There are probably more of them out there that we haven't found yet)

It doesn't look like you've got this one. The intro is in German, but the interview is in English.

Just added it to the Gallery, tagged you in a comment on it. You can add them yourself there! So can anyone else, no moderator privileges required.

We also got another one https://www.gamedeveloper.com/desig...incing-players-to-actually-finish-their-games .
@Quintillus do you plan on updating the list, or shall I do it?
(can transfer the OP to you)
I've been updating the list at https://www.civfanatics.com/civ7/civ-vii-media-articles/, and just added that one to it. Haven't been trying to keep the OP up-to-date, though you're welcome to. I did edit it to include a link to the front-page article.

It'll probably work best if whoever is available updates it. I've been "liking" posts once I add them to the Gallery/article depending on what type of content they are.

Added the Sports Illustrated one. Since when has Sports Illustrated written about video games? It's an interesting one though!
SI is mostly AI written anymore. They actually got in trouble for inventing fake journalists with AI made headshots and bios. The publication has really gone downhill.

Ugh, they're the ones who created fake journalists? Good to know, any publication that publishes AI-generated articles immediately goes into my "untrustworthy" list. Couldn't tell you when I'd last seen an SI article though... probably many years ago. And that's as someone who follows college football each fall, so it's not like I don't ever read sports news.

I don't see anything odd about this one, though? The author has a Muckrack page and has been featured elsewhere as well, so it looks likely that he is a real person.

Just added this one from August 21st, which had slipped through the cracks: https://gamerant.com/civilization-7-new-features-leaders-crisis-units/ . It's an interview with Dennis Shirk and Carl Harrison.

Also got the Sixth Axis one added. Feel free to double-post if you find a new one in short succession, I almost overlooked the edit and thus that article.

Now I need to actually read all these articles...

Looks like PC Games Insider interviewed Ed Beach at gamescon, Mostly talking about the new age system.

GGRecon.com have another interview. Fairly light, but a lot of direct quotes from Ed Beach

GamesHub interviewed Dennis Shirk and Carl Harrison, fairly general overview

Destructoid also interviewed Dennis Shirk and Carl Harrison. This one publishes the full text of the interview

Game Reactor again Dennis Shirk and Carl Harrison
