All Things Star Trek

Seasons 3 & 4 are in the 32nd Century, yes, but what do you mean was still alive? He still is.
I meant he was still alive in the 32nd Century. It was a joke. Or it was supposed to be.

We only watched the first few episodes of Picard S01, but tuned out after what they did to Icheb. Completely skipped S02, but have heard positive things about S03 especially from those who've been critical of the newer Trek shows.

The episode with Icheb is what made me decide to give up on the new Trek shows altogether (I'd already given up on DiscoTrek).

Fun fact: The actor who played Icheb co-starred in at least one fan film (I'm not sure if there was a sequel). That was a dystopian one as well, as Icheb did not receive a warm and fuzzy reception from Starfleet/the Federation after Voyager returned.

Onto S03E02 of Picard. Meh.

Spoiler :
Now we get to watch them butcher Worf's character by inexplicably making him a Starfleet Intelligence handler (what?) and also tying him to Raffi, resident uncontrollable addict. Also, he shouldn't be gray and wizened already, given klingon lifespan.

Doesn't that description apply to many of them? They haven't aged well, in my view.

Spoiler S03 :
Beverly is honestly unrecognizable. They had to explicitly tell me it was Crusher, and even now, knowing that's who she is, I simply do not recognize her.

They gave Worf the gray, wizened look with the prosthetics, so it's an intentional choice. They kind of made him look like the dahar masters from DS9, who are well over a century old. It seems an odd choice. That said, I'm happy they're going with the TNG-era klingon look and not whatever the hell Discovery did.

I don't see how you're having problems with recognising Beverley. McFadden is 73, but she doesn't look  that different.

All white people look alike. :dunno:

ETA: I don't think it's unreasonable of me to not really recognize her:

Interestingly, I find those two pictures to match really well, and I am horrible with faces and pictures of faces. (It is not unusual for me to take several weeks before I can recognize all of my students from the photos on my roster.) It helps that they have the same expression and similar hairstyles (though I did scroll down to hide the lack of bangs, as hairstyles trip me up). This doesn't necessarily mean that I'd find the moving versions similar, but I won't be watching to find out.

Icheb was a good kid, and it's a pity they used him up in such a horrible way, no doubt.
Yup that S1Ep5 moment in 'Patrick Stewart goes to Space' was the one for me too. In the depths of this thread a few years back you can see me defending the show in the first few eps to others who'd already turned on it.. but then 'that' episode happened. Was disgusted by the Icheb scene.. then Seven's runnin around killing anything that moves (including Icheb lol).. then Patrick kills the French accent.. Seven lies to Patrick and then kills some more people including an ex girlfriend.. then Dr Death kills her husband (yes she turned out to be affected by a mind meld but I didn't care anymore lol).. and im just like.. oh to hell with this... Ep6 with all the borg stuff was actually kind of good but the damage was done and the show couldn't win me back and I really didn't enjoy eps 7-10 with the mind melding androids, copy & paste starships and...
Spoiler continued :

the Data pull the plug stuff and Patrick dying and becoming an android. That was it.. haven't touched since.

They changed the main writer/producer for S2 & 3 so even if they do disappoint me (as I can see they've disappointed others here) I figure it surely can't be as bad as S1, SURELY lol? Michael Chabon wrote the end of S1 while in hospital watching his father on life support facing the big decision so while I feel bad for him as that's all our worst nightmares I really wish he hadn't of put the entire star trek universe through the same experience with Data. I went into 'Patrick Stewart goes to Space' so excited they'd undo what happened in Nemesis but instead Michael dangled Data like a yoyo in front of us and then pulled the plug the moment we got him back. Pfft honourable/beautiful death, how about NO DEATH lol.

I see Lore is in S3 trailer which is good as I kept saying in my forum posts here where's Lore in S1. I even tweeted the show runners asking if they'd forgotten him lol so it's good to see they're undoing that. As much as I'd love to take the credit I'm sure plenty of others were pestering them about Lore not being mentioned too. Would be nice if he does his bad guy thing, loses, they wipe his mind and slap a backup of data in there (cause sneaky Dr Soong secretly kept a copy of the one Patrick deleted) but I suspect that'll be too much to hope for and on top of that they'll kill off a few more favourite characters as sadly we're now in the age where our favourite childhood heroes being asked to come back for movies and tv shows to be killed off in service of a younger cast we're supposed to care about more. Disney Wars did it, S1 Patrick Stewart goes to Space started doing it. Hope I'm wrong and TNG fans get that happily ever after ending we craved after Nemesis ended with a funeral.

It's noticeably her, even with the weird hair coloring and obvious cosmetic surgery.

I never did like Beverly, right from the get-go. She has abominable taste in fabric colors.

I genuinely do not see how she's so recognizable to you all. There is nothing in my brain that connects the two images together.

Well, it does help to have the earlier image for comparison. But her cheekbones and lips are similar in both, though the cheekbones in the later one make her look like she had a transporter accident with a squirrel.

(Am I being petty here? Yes. So many actresses are afraid to age gracefully so they make themselves look ludicrous and achieve the result they wanted to avoid in the first place.)

My ability to recognize people by faces is fairly garbage so i have no input on that. So far I'm liking S3 better than S2 and S1, course that's a fairly low bar to clear. Like I'm actually excited and intrigued about where things are going in a way I wasn't with the prior two seasons.

You are on the prosopagnosia (face blindness) spectrum, then?

Crusher isn't even close in the ugliest outfit contest from TNG.

Guinan vs Troi: FIGHT!!!

Well, I just saw the Omelas episode of SNW, which I only tumbled to about half an hour in.

Spoiler for further commentary :
It had a very effective ending, perhaps the strongest ending of any episode since DS9's In The Pale Moonlight.
