The Mrs really wants to get CBS All Access just to see Picard. I'm going to wait until it's out a bit to see how it's received before taking the plunge.

As bad as I expected it to be. I've entirely given up on Discovery at this point. Hopefully the rot doesn't seep into Picard. The trailers don't seem awful, but I am still worried.

I gave up on Discovery in the first season.

I've been gradually catching up on Enterprise, still haven't seen all of it, have no idea which season is currently on Space/CTV sci-fi (whatever they call that channel now), and don't really care. It's only for the sake of being bored on Friday afternoons.

What I've seen of the Picard trailers is unimpressive. I like Jeri Ryan, but the clip of her character speaking completely unlike Seven of Nine is not something that makes me want to watch this. At this point I'm wondering why anyone thought we needed yet another TNG spinoff. I couldn't care less what Picard is doing post-Nemesis.

This bothered me as well. I also can't imagine inserting that character and NOT including cameos by Chakotay, Janeway, or Icheb - the three most important people in her life. Granted we've only seen trailers, but I've not heard any mention of their inclusion or even reference. :(

Well, of course, but besides that, why did we need it? They've been playing the same commercials for months, and I still have no idea why we needed this particular form of Star Trek. What I'd like is a proper wrapup for Voyager. After seven years, "It'll all be in my report, Admiral" just doesn't cut it.

Oh, well. Fanfic will provide. There are some really good post-Endgame stories out there.

But that's the point isn't it? Both your point and mine... we didn't need it. The only reason was for the almighty holy mammon. Full stop.

Well, in some ways "Picard post Enterprise" could very well include a Voyager wrap up. I mean, a lot of "what happened to _____ after TOS?" questions became the basis for episodes in TNG.

And if Seven not speaking like a Borg is properly illuminated that could be a good story for an episode in itself. Let's face it, Voyager was a desperately short handed ship with a tight knit community that knew the score, so her snobby "still Borg enough to be better than you" traits weren't really going to cause her any trouble. They needed her too much. In the world at large she was gonna encounter...resistance...and it only makes sense that she would be forced to blend in better.

I suspect it will be awful, but it's the first time I've been interested in seeing new Star Trek since 2009.

Three recent deaths in the Trek universe:

Dorothy (D.C.) Fontana. She basically wrote the book on Spock and Vulcans, creating episodes, character backgrounds, novels, and other Spock/Vulcan-centric Star Trek. She was part of the Original Series' writing staff at a time when women weren't generally welcome in that line of work.

Robert Walker, Jr. He played Charlie Evans in "Charlie X."

Rene Auberjonois. He's known for many roles in TV and movies, but Trek fans know him best as Odo, on Deep Space Nine.

He was yet another superb character in a series that was bursting at the seams with superb characters.
    RIP Odo :(

He was roughly the same age as Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen and Brian "Gordon's alive!" Blessed.

Does anyone remember what episode of Star Trek it was where Picard is explaining to Data how on ancient Earth there used to be a thing called "The Con game"? I'm having a conversation in another thread where it came up but my Google Fu failed me.

Next time you're trying to identify an episode based on dialogue, try chakoteya.net - someone has painstakingly transcribed hundreds of episodes and posted them there. They aren't proper scripts (there are no directors' notes), but the dialogue is mostly accurate. You can search the site for the keywords you want, and chances are good that you'll find the episode.

I use this site as an aid when I participate in "Star Trek Hangman" (one of the games in the Admirals' Lounge subforum at TrekBBS).
