How about updating Alpha Centauri to the CivIV engine. Nothing too fancy, just an update. Of course the massive amounts of energy this would entail would make it much more reasonable to ask for a couple of improvements and added features.

If I remember correctly, another Civ site was going for a literal translation of SMAC via Civ4 mod. If I still remember correctly, it's been slow (or not at all) goings.

There's a mod on this forum, Roanoke (or is it Planet Roanoke?), either way found here that's "inspired" by SMAC in the makings.
