Altering Number Of Turns?

I am really enjoying this game, however, I seem to be having a big problem. I am running out of time, I seem to have used up the 300 turns before I am anywhere near the point of being ready to declare independence.

Can anyone help? Is there any way to turn this off? I am a fan of this and the Civilization series and have always just continued to play despite running out of turns. This has never been an issue with Civilization, but with this you need to declare independance before your 300 turns are up.

Anyone able to help?

Thanks.

I'm using the AoD 1.06 mod and have the same problem.

I only checked "Independence" for victory and it is only giving me 300 turns.

If the game is only 300 turns long in the "normal" game length, and you need 200 turns to win the Revolution, then if you apply simple arithmatic, you need to declare independence by turn 100, or about year 1600.

I find that if I declare independence by 1600, I have plenty of time to completely defeat the REF. I win almost 100% of the time on conquistador level if I declare at or just before 1600.

At that point, the tax rate is usually only 5%-8%, and very manageable so I don't even need those Founding Fathers designed to compensate for the dent those taxes put in your econ if you declare independence later. I usually select the option that lets me continue to trade with Europe, so the lower tax rate really makes a big difference, (although from a design perspective, I am a bit confused as to why the developers of this game thought it was logical that the Imperial Taxes would still be applied to your trades after you have revolted against both them and the government from which they came.)

I have won with each different civilization using the simple insight that I need about 100-200 turns to win the revolution. Perversely, the longer you wait, the more turns you will need to win the fight in my experience, because the REF is so much larger and spread out. So there clearly is a cut off point where you must declare, and for me that seems to be at about 1600, or a little before that.
