Alternate Civ-Switching conditions you would like to see? "Alternate" to the natural progressions.

For America (the USA, to be specific) I'd like the conditions to be you must have established a city of a certain size on an different continent then your capital. If you choose to become America that city becomes your capital, you loose any cities you have on other continent, and start with a low city count. The cities you loose would become a new civ.

You would never want to pick America if that were the case surely?
Why not, the great idea of the Age transition Crises was to "reset" the game to keep it interesting and ballanced. They also talked about new age resources so if the civs on the Old World are going to lose many of their infrastruture and the new continents have less local competition for new resources that would help New World civs to overcome any aparent disadvantage.

I kinda like the idea that some of the civ transitions could be tied to negative events. Like if you no longer control your original capital you could become Byzantium, or the USSR could be unlocked by having sufficiently high unhappiness.

PS: I know those examples are grossly historically oversimplified. I was trying to think of internesting mechanical examples you could tie to a civ transition. I didn't suggest that france could be unlocked by millitary defeats so I had some restraint in my historical inacuraccy.
