Yes of course, and then western culture picked it up and made paintings and operas out of the story, this is just another case where you are best known from your enemies description. Not exactly fair, but adds flavour to the charather, as a reference to how he has been portrayed over the last centuries.

I think it's funny, but I don't mind not taking these things too seriously. Cesar's salad joke still makes me laugh because of how absurd it is, but I know some people hated it.
