Indeed. One of my US History students today axed me why I was telling them about the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War when we're supposed to be getting ready for an American History AP test.

I thought about it for a second before replying, "Because... shut up."

Parklos is also right on that note too. Problem of uneducated trapped poverty isnt unique or much worse off. Thats why the book is filled with examples of resentment to immigrants whom have flooded the labour market and work the same jobs.

    Maybe your right after all.

Despite everything thats broken whether its is 1/4 of prisoners on earth are americans or guns or govenment socialist program. If illegal immigrants are greatful to jump the border for a better life work the same harsh labour jobs and provide there kids at least with something like an education for upward mobility. Then it cant be all bad

But even Republicans know that US has [censored] up. You're just trying to fix it your way.

We were the largest economy in the world well before World War 1.

And the USA is still one of the most educated countries in the world.

Though I am not sure these (and the statistics you posted earlier) are extremely relevant given that the article seems to argue that this dumbing of America thing is some sort of recent trend. I don't really know the differences in university attendance since the Vietnam War Era (when I assume it was probably one of the highest, and where your data starts) and now. Also given he even derides Scientific American readers as uneducated, I am not sure that education, in the sense of school type learning, makes a difference in his argument, but rather that we have become too culturally accepting of an unwillingness to accept new information. Plenty of single minded idiots graduate from high school and university after all.

Americans aged 25 - 34 are slightly more educated, as a percentage of those with degrees, than Americans aged 55 - 65.

Thank you. I was going to look it up, but was just feeling exceptionally lazy at the moment. I guess that could be further proof the author is just more full of it, if you think that sort of education is relevant. As stated earlier, I personally think he isn't exactly arguing that, but I still think he is wrong. It isn't anything new that people can be easily swayed by stupid things.

You can't blame the political parties for dumbing down America. If anything, blame birth control. The simple fact is stupid people are breeding faster than smart people. We have a crisis in the making in 20 or 30 years. But this problem isn't just in America. Other Western nations will face similar problems.

And Berlosconi's party used to be fascist, and He's been known to rally to Mussolini's defense if given the chance.

Also, on top of the complaints already mentioned, I like the fact that it assumes that consumption of junk culture is limited just to the "Lumpenproletariat", the uneducated and unintelligent.
My brother's a Cooper Union Graduate and finds Sci-Fi Original Movies to be entertaining. 25 million people watching Dancing with the Stars does not imply 25 million stupid people.

Honestly, I'd prefer the British to be back in power again. I don't hear as many stupid Brits as I do stupid Yanks. I also find the Brits take order and system seriously something Yanks have continued since the colonization but have somehow screwed it up recently - too much power to the head. Perhaps being second best is far healthier and thus better.

btw, OP, you said Jesus needs to save them - Jesus is part of the problem.

Joe points out that half the world is envious of what even poor america have.
Did you even read the article ?

Amadeus are you one of those people who has read George Orwells "animal farm" and thought it is a funny story about farm animals ? Cause thats the kind of people Joe is talking about in hes home town.

Plus he also unloads on Liberals elites with their "Huffington post" and "John stewart" as also being part of the very same problem.

    Half sounds like too few.

As much as I could stomach. So, not much of it.

    I didn't understand it. :(

Napoleon wasn't a pig, he was a Corsican. And pigs can't talk. I think Orwell made the whole thing up.

    America's poor read dystopian fiction?

    I don't care?
