Gonzo ,
I sent you mail to include me .BTW this is my first SG.

Okay, since this is a succession game with a few beginners(that was it's whole purpose) I will explain here the general rules of succession games.

A succession game is basically a game that is passed around. Each person takes some turns and passes it on to the next person. If you cannot take your turn, notify me by way of e-mail or by posting on this thread(which sends me an e-mail). Our beginning turns(before 1AD) will be 25 turns long. Between 1AD and 1700AD turns will be 20 turns long. And after that, it's 15 on out. After your turn is up, promptly post the save file(in zip format[WinZip downloadable at WinZip.com]) to a new post on this thread which also contains a summary of what happened during your reign. The following must be included: Any new civs found, any new cities founded, settlers built, science/luxories rate changes, and any diplomatic stance changes. You are encouraged to include as much as you can about your reign but that is all that is required. At the beginning of your turn, you just download and unzip the file to the c:\prog files\infogrames\civ III\saves\ folder on your computer and then have fun and play.

P.S. please download the v1.16f patch(you can find it on this site and firaxis' site)

P.S.S if any of this doesn't work with you or your schedule let me know so we can work with you.

Greetings all and welcome to the official beginning of the American Succession game started by gonzo_for_civ(me). This game is also to be known as GFC1(not a spinoff of LK_ but i was feeling really unoriginal and wanted a name that can be easily sequeled.(sp?)) So, with that, turn order is already listed. Everyone takes 25 turns starting with me. I will post in a few hours. Remember, when you download the game for your turn, post a message saying that you are playing so we don't skip your turn. ;)

I have already posted turn order and will send an e-mail to anyone who is not taking their turn as a friendly reminder in case you are not subscribed to this thread. Plus, we need to decide on a path of victory. We can pretty much get anything but I am leaning towards something non-cultural. Please post your opinion soon so we can gear this game accordingly.:)

Well, until 25 turns are up, I guess I'm :king:

Oh yeah, try to be real descriptive in your summaries early on.:)

Im done, take it away charliehoke. Got your post on the jap board so if you can't do it tonight get it done when u can. We won't skip you since it's the first time around and the start date was advanced by a day. We are in a pretty good starting position. I found a settler in a hut so we have 2 cities and 1 settler in position to build a 3rd which will be up to you. New york is in the process of settler building. 2 scouts are rapidly discovering terrain. We've got furs.:goodjob:

SUmmary is coming real soon!   :goodjob: :goodjob: :king:   :p

Ok I've got it! I'll try my best to finish tonight, but I might not be able to until tomorrow night. I'm going to wait for the summary too, of course:)

It's the year 4050BC. There are several restless nomads gathered together to elect a leader, well call him the King or the Despot. They will give him absolute rule. He is called Gonzo.

Gonzo accepts his call to power from the people. He pledges allegience to them, and they pledge allegiance to him. He can see lots of land from his lookout spot on top of the hill. He sees a courier approaching.

"Master! - we have located building grounds for Washington, near the river"

"You have done well, courier, you are promoted to scout and named Hermit, in honor of the speedy god Hermes(which wasn't yet invented by the greeks at this time), you will go east and find new lands for the expansion of the royal kingdom."

4000 B.C. After consultation with the royal courier-scout Hermit, a group of settlers is moved off of the hills of their heritage, to the lush green paradise that awaits them. Hermit travels east, and reports the discovery of a coast. The remaining citizens form a worker group and head to mine grasslands which will benefit Washington 50 years later, when it is founded.

3950 B.C. Washington is founded. The people rejoice and begin to train strong military brutes known as warriors as the workers build a road for the benefit of money. Hermit moves up the coast for the sake of exploration.

3900 B.C. Our scientists begin work on a technology which will enable the building of temples, we shall call it Ceremonial Burial. Hermit heads north to find a river.

3850 B.C. Hermit moved up the coast. Our workers have announced the completion of a road for the benefit of the civilization and begin to mine.

3800 B.C. Hermit gained vast grounds in an effort to find lands in which to build a new settlement. No major landmark sitings reported.

3750 B.C. Hermit continued to explore our vast continent.

3700 B.C. Workers complete a mine and move to build a road to the fine furs located N of Washington. The furs will be usable when the culture of Washington can expand to include them in our borders. We have built a strong contingent of warriors in Washington. After careful consideration, a scout is started since a settler would waste 5 turns at the end before completion.

3650 B.C. A possible future city site is discovered NE of Washington.

3600 B.C. Hermit discovers a tribe of ancient peoples, they have no knowledge to share but instead join our tribe in the form of a settler.

3550 B.C. Our strong warriors are ordered home so our scout unit can perform it's intended job.

3500 B.C. Hermit reports the sighting of what may be several land bridges to another world.

3450 B.C. Our scouts find good city land close to Washington in the SE.

3400 B.C. Hermit reports that the land bridges are simply inland sea squares, and are not a passage to another land. Just some deserts.

3350 B.C. Fur road complete, the people rejoice.[party] :jump: :hammer: [dance] :goodjob:[party]
New York founded and is producing a set of settlers to expand the empire.

3300 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work.

3250 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work again.

3200 B.C. Our great explorers discover a prime city site W of Washington

3150 B.C. NW of washington, Hermit discovered a large cluster of ivory and a hut.

3100 B.C. As our scientists discovered Ceremonial Burial, our scouts received a warrior conscript for free. Alphabet was the next elected advance.

3050 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work again.

3000 B.C. Washington built a settler and started one of these new temple structures. Toynbee has announced America as the happiest civilization on the planet!

2950 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work again.

2900 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work.

2850 B.C. Our great explorers continued their work.

2800 B.C. Our settler is in position to build a city. That will have to be decided by the next ruler, as gonzo has been assassinated by angry ants.

I have finished the game and will post it. I don't have time for the write up, but it seems we are virtually alone on an entire continent. We gained four techs through goody huts, and all I did was build settlers in order to claim this vast land.

:king:

Here I go! Sorry about the delay.

2800: As I take the reigns, My advisors approach to enlighten me on the state of affairs. The are great tracts of habitable land extending in all directions, with no other peoples spotted anywhere. Our foreign advisor is admonished harshly for lack of performance. Expansion is the name of the game - We must fill these lands before other find them! :king:

2750: The settler moves one more square to avoid overlapping with Washington. Alas, this takes them 50 years! The Teoihuican tribe in the extreme north teaches us to manufacture and distribute new weapons they call "bows". Unfortunately we have no adversaries on which to test them! The science rate is boosted as we have a fair treasury, and we will know learn the secrets of the alphabet a full 700 years earlier!

2710: Boston founded! Near grasslands and gold. Production set to warrior to provide a modicum of defense. :slay:

2670: More goody huts to the North. The Incan tribes teach us Bronze Working. Swords will soon be made :ninja:

2630: Amazingly, still no contact with other peoples! The Incan tribes teach us mysticism. :jesus: Looks like expansionist characteristic is paying off!

2590: Our scout reveals a coastline to the NE - do we own the entire island??

2550: Boston produces warrior, production set to settler.

2510: Jungles sighted in the extreme NE

2470: Exploring... slowly...

2430: New York grows, production reallocated to expedite settler.

2390: Mining started near Boston (mining grasslands w/shields)

2350: More fertile lands discovered to the north. Can we claim entire island??

2310: More solitary tribesman located near NY. Spices found in the North :smoke:

2270: Settler produced in NY! Set to worker. The Navajo tribes teach us how to use wheels! Horses spotted north on Washington - Settler moving in that direction.

2230: Settling strategy: close to capitol to minimize corruption or far away to maximize expansion?

2190: Temple produced in Washington, set to settler. Our might road to Boston is complete.. more mining ordered.

2150: Alphabet researched. We can now express our monosyllabic mutterings as symbols. Writing ordered up (note: I think on further reflection we should do iron working so that we can settle near deposits - we might want to change this)

2110: Settler almost complete in Boston

2070: More horses found to the N, still to civ contact!

2030: CONTACT! An Iroquois scout is found north of NY. Our scout is redirected to cut off what seems to be a land bridge leading to them. If a choke point is found, our settler should be redirected to cut them off. These festering heathens have neither the wheel or masonry, and one fewer city then we do! We shall dominate them! :rocket:

So ends my reign. Until the last turn, I couldn't see any reason to do anything but spit out settlers. Now that we have contact, our tactics might change. Good Luck!

Prologue

And so it came to pass that in the year 2030 BC a great leader passed away. Our new President has decreed that a city shall be named in his honour. The people approved and their was much rejoicing throughout the land. But there is still much work to be done. An empire must be forged, and our tiny nation has turned once again to their toils.

1790 BC - The Chehalis tribe has taught us horse riding.

1700 BC - We have met a people who call themselves English. We do not know where their camp is of yet.

1600 BC - Philadelphia has been founded on a hill, next to a river, near the horselands to the north. We have also discovered a band of savages. These barbarians attacked our settlers as they headed north. Our President was wise to hold back the settlers until an armed escort arrived. Two settler now continue north under escort. There are more of these barbarians blocking our second scout at the landbridge. They will be dealt with. Additional warriors have been dispatched.

1550 BC - We have found the Iroquie settlement. I suspect that the English are our nearest neighbour as their warrior scout has moved with our own.

1450 BC - Charliston has been founded on grazing lands by a river, far to the north, named in honour of our previous ruler. This was decreed by our President.

1425 BC - We have perfected writing. Our wise men have been ordered to improve our weaponry. They speak of something called iron.

1400 BC - The road to New York is finished. We shall build one to Philadelphia next. Our warriors must have horses. The city of Chicago has been founded near Charliston, next the spice fields. We must garrison strong forces in these cities.

1350 BC - Seattle has been founded to the north west.

1325 BC - Charliston was attacked by more barbarians, but our forces stood strong. This seemed to please our people and they offered to improve the royal palace. And so shall it be. A meeting ground of grass and fine paving has been laid.

1275 BC - We have destroyed the barbarians camp near the landbridge and our second scout shall now proceed to map the areas to the north east. There may be more barbarians to the east of Charliston. Another settler is heading out under escort toward the ivory. Seattle is without protection but a warrior is being trained in Boston as we speak. Chicago and Charliston show dangerous signs of corruption. Washington is still without protection. The population is too low in our cities to prepare more settlers at the moment.

Epilogue

A sad day has come. Our ruler has passed away, and our search begins for another. Word has spread amongst the people of a great warrior named 311, and he has been summoned by the elders to lead our people.

We are blessed with a fine land in which to build our empire, and we shall grow strong.

Sidenote

Civ 3 crashed on me at 1500 BC. First time ever.

Maximum hyperlinks exceeded?

Moved back one auto save and continued. :)

As an outside observer, my advice would be to SETTLE! SETTLE, SETTLE, SETTLE!:)

Take advanatge of the expansionist attribute - you can see where the best sites are before anybody else. And don't ignore the 'marginal' sites. Be sure to settle either next to or even right in hills, swamps, deserts. (Settling right in desert/swamp is a non-optimal choice, of course, but sometimes must be done.) Why? these are places you will see strategic resources pop up - iron, saltpeter, coal, rubber, etc. (I mention the 'obvious' because this is a beginners' game, after all. :D )

After a few more towns are established, you may want to stress military units in some of them. After all, you want to defend what you've got. Yes, it can be a delicate balance: military/culture/settlers.

And that's a good point about settling in a choke point, if one exists. Just be aware that if the Iraquois are closer to it than Washington is, you will have to pump it with culture while fighting corruption (caused by distance from capital) to try to keep it from flipping to the Iraquois. (OK, on Chieftan level these things aren't as bad as they are on higher levels, but they're still important to remember.)

Anyway, it looks like you guys have made a real good start!:goodjob:

Well, after 3 leaders have taken control of our empire. The current strategy is still rapid expansion. I reccomend that we continue this until we claim most of this continent. That's good that we have contact with other civs. I kept looking with 2 scouts but never found anyone.:( Let's keep up the good work.

P.S. it is the decree of the moderator of this game that we establish a maximum of 1 city named in honor of someone. This is so that the game doesn't become a race to name cities for yourself(I have seen that). Until then, keep naming them. Way to go charliehoke, only 75 total turns have passed and you already have a city named in your honor:)

I was surprised to see all these events took place in such a short time , I was even worried that my turn has passed . But I am glad that the famous warrior 311 will jump to the throne yet.:egypt:

I think we should focus on finding the english and iriqui settlments then establish our settling strategy to corner them and gain the rest of the continent to our selves:king:

still we need to develop our army just in case.

do you think its time for some wonder in washington?

any way its uo to the rightfull heir 311 to decide :D

may his rule be prosprus for our people.

BTW please do forgive my spelling. I am so lousy in that area :)
