Americans suck

Dude, they suck. Ottomans UU is a sort of musketman, it comes way too late, considering that at this point you must lead in score already, unless you're doing it wrong like that noob DMOC who posted earlier. In any case Janissary won't help you to get an edge. English? LOL. If you're doing it right you get Riflemen way before AIs have any gunpoweder units. At least I can do that and I already play on Noble level (winning most of the time). Ethiopia see Ottomans. Dutch? Do they even have UU? But yes their overpowered UB somewhat makes up for the lack of UU.

But seriously, lets stop beating this dead horse :)

I've been relegated to noob status. :mischief:

Btw the Dutch UB is top tier but not overpowered, I think. Still I do think it is between the top 4 and top 8 UB's. :goodjob: Otherwise the post seems pretty sound.

While it's possible to have Rifles against Longbows on any level, I still consider Redcoats decent. They brutalise Muskets, aren't checked by AI Rifles or Grenadiers and can still compete against Infantry, which allows you to keep the momentum very well.

I actually used to be ahead at gunpowder more often, ignoring Liberalism for heavy medieval war.

DMOC? noob? Man, if a noob can beat deity pretty easily, then what am I? :p

The important question is: are you first in score by gunpowder? If not you ain't doin it right. Noobs play deity and sometimes win. The top players choose noble and smash all opposition.

Also bear in mind that ancient era starts are not your only option(even if they are the most fun). I do not see why a civ based on a country founded less than 300 years ago should have "unique" advantages earlier in the game. And that, essentially, is the only real thing wrong with the American civ. The leaders and the uniques are all at least passable, just late.

QFT.

I recently finished a PBEM game called "Modern Civ" where only 4 leaders played: Washington, Victoria, Stalin and Frederick. It started in the Industrial era and IMO those leaders were close to balanced.

Washington of America (Exp/Cha)
Stalin of Russia (Ind/Agg)
Victoria of England (Imp/Fin)
Frederick of Germany (Phi/Org)

This explains it. Play on higher levels and you'll get it. Ethiopia has a weaker UB than Ottomans but a better UU; upgrading oromos to riflemen is awesome.
Hm. In a case you didn't realize it, I was kidding. It seems sarcasm is not that good idea :(

And by "lets stop beating this dead horse" I meant that it's rather silly when someone clearly not-a-very-good-player posts some silly stuff and everybody dogpiles on him ;) Including me :[ Even if the OP thinks he can teach others a thing or two about the importance of score :D

Anyhow. What I meant... you cannot say that civilization sucks just because it's UU/UB comes way too late. Because UUs/UBs of most of the civilizations are not that important even if they come earlier. They do help, but they dont change the game. Someone who can beat the game with Redcoats, can beat the game without them as well. It won't be much more difficult, else being equal. So if US suck due to their UU/UB, so do 80% of other civilizations. I hope you see what I mean, sorry for my poor English.

Panzer is also late-game UU.
America get advantage in late-game because most other civilizations have early-game UU.

Many pro's here will tell you the scoreboard doesn't matter.

Until they meet an expanding Monty. Whenever I play, he expands out of Mexico and goes east.

That's why you have to use your traits and build in the Houston area first to cut him off.

Oh, and build a lot of units for when he gets pissed that you cut him off ;)

What? Americans and Mexico region fighing over Texas? It sounds so fake. That could never happen in real life. :)

Now, if Montezuma names his city there Tejas, you have a Problem. :)
