I'm not so convinced murder is wrong anymore. If war is inevitable, and so any innocents are killed as collateral damage, what is wrong with at least murdering some people who deserve it while on this planet?

    Random observation:

There are four ways to control a population: disease, predators, starvation, and war.

Human beings cannot abide the first three. They cannot be tolerated anywhere. Therefore we're going to get the fourth one by default.

Edit: I didn't read Neo's last post until after I posted this one. At which point I'm thinking Neomega got inside my head, because that's exactly the same way I think. In particular that's the reason I so strongly favored the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Not really. The only time (for example) America lost population was 1918 due to influenza. Not even the Civil War really effected population. War is a bad way to control people.

    The WWs didn't happen?

Remember the Influenza only happened because of soldiers returning from WW1...

During the years between WW1 and WW2, many believed no major war would ever happen again,
and some of them did sound convincing. But then, every body saw what happened.
It's just always too optimistic to make such prediction.

I wanna give you a kiss, Elta.
Unfortunately, US will always find a reason to survive, which the reason is to find a good opponent as its enemy.
Used to be Soviet, today is N-korea.:p

Yep. I left it out on purpose.

You see, when I wrote The List, it was a list of things that might actually work.

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting the ultimate practitioner.

Because you have no right to say they deserve it, and it's not murder if someone in authority says they do

But my ideal murders are close, while yours have little regard for collateral damage. Gangster style. In fact, I have been of the opinion for a while that gang wars shouldn't even be prosecuted or investigated, since they actually usually hit people who deserve it, or are in classic turf wars. Indeed, it seems to me investigations of gang slayings are less about justice, and more about showing who is in charge (the police).

The general difference between a gangster and a nation at war, is the gangster is much more precise in who he hits.

If you accept their moral authority, which I no longer do.

Two things need to happen before warfare will be a thing of the past:

    1. The economic backlash must outweigh the benefit and gain of waging war by a large margin.

    2. Humanity will have to abandon religion, or it must have a significantly diminished effect on our lives. I guess you could say we will evolve beyond faith and science will be the dominant 'religion'.

Even so, there will always be cases where a nation acts in such a way as is unacceptable, and will not listen to peaceful means, and so there will be a war.

Yeah, atheists never kill anyone. Believe me, if this was true, I'd fully support this move.

I don't see what people have about religion and war. Very few wars are started by religion, but the combatants often are quick to take it up.

Religion has the effect on the Middle East that nationalism had during the world wars.

    Although to a lesser degree.
