AND2 and SVN Bug Reports - A New Dawn 2 ONLY

Stack attack is where a stack of units can all attack at once and the game will decipher winners/losers in an instant, as if it were 1 unit and not a stack. Stack limit is something different joseph.

Thank you IPEX! I'll see if I'm able to fix it; I've almost never used Stack Attack and that's why I've never noticed this problem.

Just out of curiosity, why?

Side note; same situation as well, my GC isn't gaining xp with stack on. Nice to know what the problem is now, my thx.

While they are different they are interconnected. Just ask Koshling.

AFAIK they're not. 1st because there's no "stack limit", it's just a "units per tile" limit under BUG options; 2nd because from what I've read the problem in C2C was caused by promotions in TB Combat Mod, which hasn't been imported in AND2. 3rd, there's no "-1" value you can assign to "units per tile" because you can set it to 0 at minimum, there's no negative value you can choose, so probably you're remembering something from C2C, not AND. Finally, the problem with Stack Attack is there even if you put no units-per-tile limit. So problem definetly lies somewhere else. :)
I recall stack attack having problems since a long time, probably in original ROM too, that's another reason why I've never used it.
I'll ask Koshling anyway. :)

High to Low was designed for "Bored" Deity players. You know the ones that have it all figured out in 20 turns.

JosEPh

Tried High-to-Low just now so I could see what it was like...

Had barbarian world turned on so I could try and get some additional barbarian activity but nothing much happened (Continent got settled too quickly I suppose.)
I took a barb city with my scouting warrior as Portugual and got thrusted into Japan's control, and later took a city in a similar manner. Decided to be mean and declared war on two leaders a turn before it gave me control of the Iriquois (Who was researching Writing without a single worker and only two warriors!!).

I did manage to pull myself out of the silliness he was taking part in, and had a lot of fun actually.
However... I did find it very strange and somewhat amusing to be declaring war on myself (In a sense) and then proceeding to eliminate my former empire via conquest :crazyeye:

Back on the barbarian thing, I never did get to see anything from them, likely because the continent got settled so quickly, but a few off-shore landmasses did get a nice amount of barbarians settling on them. I dubbed one Barbarian Island because of the literal flood of units on it!

I'll have to try some more naval-oriented maps I suppose if I want to see more barbarian coastal activity... Although, I do remember playing on one of the earlier revisons... I think it was Fractured World or WorldGenerator, but the map was mostly land with some lakes and one-tile wide "rivers" scattered all over the place, and barbarians would still come with triremes and war galleys every few turns.

That's stack limit whether it's called that in Bug now or not. But I'm not going to argue over it because every thing I say is contradicted so I'm either out of my mind or can't express myself. Either way I'll shut up and bow out now.

Joseph, are you sure isn't something working differently in C2C? It's a long time I don't play anymore with it while I guess you still do; anyway nobody wants you to shut up, I'm just explaining that there are differences between C2C and AND and you can try yourself unchecking that unit-per-tile limit or stack limit and see if you still have problems with Stack Attack. I bet you will, regardless of the stack limit. :)

Just a couple of curious questions for anyone one else who may have seen this;

1) Barbs don't appear to take ANY terrain damage with that modcomp enabled. Any other AI unit will take damage, but not barbs. Anyone else confirm this please?

2) Concerning stacks (with stack attack enabled), stacks are unable to use the "claim territory" option. Any other single military unit is able too, just not stacks. If anyone has that option enabled, can they confirm please?

Lol, I don't want to be the only idiot potentially imagining something. Would like the company :).

@ Rezca; You must be extraordinarily lucky, I'm fighting off a wave of mace's and cats ATM, all while trying to keep my boarder cities from Izzy's icy cold black heart. Things are definitely tense, although that's what I get for not fog busting my western ocean.

Answer

1) Barbs are Barbarian, they don't take damage period, same as Animals, which is what they are in 'human' form.
2) Stacks don't claim territory, only 1 unit of a stack can claim land, the rest have to wait, rest, or move on. You MUST have fixed borders on in options and chosen in civics.

On the AI units using roads, I've struck this now. I had opens borders before with both France and Ottomans.

1. I declared on France, a Crossbow can move 3 tiles on my paved roads, with no special promotions. Move, Pillage etc.

Ottomans aren't able to move as France did, they are limited to 1 or 2 tiles, same as Units movements.

So from a preliminary analysis;
Open borders, Embassy ==> Declare war upon AI, and full movement is available.
Open borders, Embassy ==> Declared UPON by AI, full movement is not available.

One analysis, not fully delved into. Can others confirm sequence of events??

Thx for the clarifications Ipex, much appreciated.

As for your conundrum, I haven't really payed attention. Guess I should. I'll post back with some info when I can, as I'm currently in a 2 front war ATM.

For some reason, I have Slavery civic selected but I cannot hurry production by whipping. Anyone else have this issue?

I’ ve updated to rev 664 and when i try to start a new game there’ s no user interface and shows several errors. I moved “cvaltroot.py” file to “/assets/python” folder of the mod so when starting a new game it shows the message: “directory from CvAltRoot.py is not valid or does not contain CivilizationIV.ini”. However, problem was fixed(user interface was restored) and everything looks ok. Do I have to worry about this message?
Needless to say that i haven't ever met this message before.

Yeah, I do. For some reason it doesn't work, I'll have to look at the code. Thank you for reporting this.

In C2C Slavery Civic was changed (because it was still too OP) and it's whipping and some other parts were moved off the civic into another xml file. I don't remember which one right now. In fact the Slavery Civic as you all know it was removed at one time, Dancing Hoskuld did a modmod for it. Hopefully Slavery Civic in the future will be removed from AND too.

Even without the whipping I like Slavery and use it as long as I can with Vassalage. The Slave Markets and Shanty Towns is a winning strategy for me. I am currently playing AND 661 at Prince level at Eternity speed on the gigantic map. I very much hope that it is not removed.

You don't 'Move' the file, you need to copy and paste it.

It needs to reside in 2 places, the opening directory where you found it, or the top most one and the "/assets/python' directory as well.

Note if you edit the file for a specific coding, add a comment to the file so it won't be overridden by the SVN updating.

Well, I don't think it's overpowered. In fact, I use it very very seldom. But I'd like to hear other opinions on this one. So guys, do you use Slavery? Do you think it's overpowered? Even AI doesn't use it too much from what I can see.

Vanilla Slavery seems very strong if used right, but crippling or useless when it isn't.

Slavery in its current AND form I don't know. The AI seems to swap out of it very quickly as soon as other options are available, and I seldom spend any time in it since I can't use it to rush buildings in food-heavy but production poor cities such as one-tile islands with multiple seafood resources nearby. The extra production given by the slave 'specialists' doesn't seem to help nearly as much.

I don't use slavery either. Just haven't really needed to. The way I tech doesn't really necessitate me using that particular civic.
