I only use my real name on one forum on the net. But I really can't think of a good reason why I use a pseudonym at all on other sites. Okay, I said some aggravating things under another name here, and ticked off a few people (and Mr Horse wasn't paricularly happy, either), and occasionally I feel the need to let off some steam and flame the American nation Best to resist this urge, word to the wise. (and possibly ******, who I find a dispicable oikDon't attack other posters, the mods don't like that much) in general;) and perhaps I wouldn't want this antisocial activity attributed to my more fleshly self, but I digress.

To get to the point, what do your names do for you? Are they an expression of who you really are, or are they just a dramatic penis extension? Do you use them as a means of comforting anonymity (as I suppose I do)? Do they stroke your ego, and let you act the part that you want.

But do you really crave to tear off your anonymity and cry, "YES, THIS IS ME!" I suppose putting your picture on this site must be a little like coming out of the closet ("Yes, moderator, I'm still a spotty sixteen year old, and not the all powerful, all wise, conquerer of worlds, and expert political analysit I've led you to believe.")
Because you seem to be doing this in the members photos thread. Are the pressures of leading this double life coming to a head? And which personality is dominating which?

Or is it just because you now feel so close to the loving and caring family in the colosseum?

;)

Okay! People who are so confident in their abilities as a well adjusted human that they have no need for an alias, need not reply to this thread!

hell yeah! :yeah:
but honestly i´m getting a bit tired of it. it was fun in the beginning because some people reacted, but now when it is written pornstar on every second t-shirt it´s not the same anymore. :(

I use my real first name--sort of anonymous, but sort of not....

I've used aliases on other forums though. Once I had my full real name on a forum, and my personal info (through my listed e-mail account there) somehow got in the wrong hands, and I got some pretty scary hatemail. So now, I control who gets that information....

Sixchan in no way masks my Identity. To prove this, my name is Scott.

My name was purley picked on the basis that is sounded good, and that it was so unusual I wouldn't EVER need to tag a number at the end. I can't STAND being Scott47 or Andreil19, etc.

I am Sixchan. Plain and simple.

I am obviously not the hunchback demon king, Richard III. In some games - Diplomacy, SMAC, and the long lost Kingmaker, particularly, I might aspire to be, and some might see his traits in me in those artificial environments where no one gets hurt.

But I chose it because it seemed like a good civ persona, and it's the name I always used in Civ II.

I am also a huge fan of Ian McKellen's Richard III flick, and of well-produced shakespeare in general (tragedies and histories, but the comedies? Blech, unless Kate Beckinsale is in them in thin gauzy white robes).

To be honest, I don't mind using the psuedonym; I somehow find it's easier to ***** about my twisted job and other things if I am using it. And if everybody was Sam6 or RebeccaG, things just wouldn't be the same, would they? Would civfanatics be the same without kitten of chaos? Or Flatlander Fox? Or animepornstar?

I agree with Richard III about the pseudonyms. Also, I think they actually tend to reveal more of your personality than ordinary names do...

As for my own, I lack the imagination to come up with a perfect alias so I just took my nick name, translated it to english and put "Mr" in front of it. :) I am pretty much the same here as in real life, experimenting with other identities is luckily something I grew out of a long time ago.

My nick is the name of a song I like. I use a nick because I like the anonymity. I act like myself when posting, so I'm not hiding my personality. Take from that what you will.

My nick is just a character from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. I don't use this nick on other sites (exept poly) since I picked it on the basis that this character would be the ultimate civ ruler

My real name is Magnus Engesäth btw

The first five letters of my last name followed by the number Hotmail suggested when santo@hotmail.com was already taken however many years ago. So my entire identity on the internet is based on the fact that there were already 66 santos with a Hotmail account.

To say something about anonymity, I don't use my real name anywhere online. I'm really not sure why.

yeah, i just hated the idea of being markus-numbersoandso, so i picked a nick i got back at school (at least the ovi part of it, the kaeptn came later when i singlehandedly landed an owl on lake lucerne (i know it doesn't make any sense but this is how i got the name).

but i agree that hiding behind an alias to insult or flame peoble is just bad style, and even though i'm more or less anonymous in here i try not to offend fellow members

I don't use my real name so that when I become a billionaire-owner of the next evil empire (what Microsoft is now), nobody will be able to dig up dirt on me from sites like this. :D

I tried to pick an original name... and someone beat me to it! so now I have an 8 at the the end. Also i don't use my real name because my parents messed up, and gave me a last name as my first name

I like pseudonyms because they are a fun alternative to real names which tend to be quite dull by comparison. 'Magnus' was simply my favorite D&D character of all time.

All the pseudonyms I use are subtle references to something and part of the fun is whether or not someone will get it. Here I go by BlueMonday (and do so in most of the gaming world). The name comes from a Kurt Vonnegut book about an insane used car dealer who goes on a violent rampage after a science fiction writer tells him that he is the only creature with freewill on Earth, that everyone else is a robot there to entertain him, and that he is part of a big experiment by the creator of the universe to see whether or not freewill is possible.

Other names I've used (and one I use now):
Hamish
D'Devil
Suite_Pea
Elbo_Phinn
Knife_Party
AEon Blue

The only reason I use Becka here is because I had emailed Thunderfall (because all I had was a free email account) and I signed my email "Becka" and that's what my name became. But it was alright because I couldn't think of a good name anyway.

Then for some reason I started using "Playa del Carmen". I liked it because...because, well, I don't know why. Perhaps it's bringing out some part of my personality I don't use in real life.

My pseudonym is quite purly chauvinistic you could say and comes from an overdose of Civ2 playing as Indians and winning once too many times:D

Basicall I always had a huge ego problem and Civ2 and Civ3 magnified it. If I had another choice it would have been ________ the Most Magnificent Ruler and Mightiest of the Mighty;)

BTW, the blank is for my name. Nope I ain't tellin' it tuh nobody:p
