    Interested in playing so far:

    Duke of Marlbrough
    Kev
    Sharkbait
    TheViking
    Old n Slow
    TimTheEnchanter
    myself

Last game, iirc, we were the French, at D+3, Barb Wrath; and starting far north on a "vertically enhanced" map.

The question: What interesting challenge for this game? (I'd still like to see a Civil War in one of these games.)

btw, I noticed that somewhere along the line, a lot of our old succession game files seem to have purged from the site. A pity, that.

If we're playing on isles, and won't get any of the early wonders...would that help us from potential opponents or add to the challenge as: 1) we may suffer from lack of early deals and/or 2) leave us too isolated for too long?

I'd be keen if there is room. Haven't played D+3 before though, so no probs if you want to avoid a ticking time bomb.:nuke: ;)

I apologize for being out of the loop on this. Holidays, family, you know: the mundane things. :)

In any case, I'm looking forward to revisiting this once again. Should I assume that we're playing the NON-classic civ2 on this?

I'm up for any suggestions. I like the idea of starting in a tundra and being forced to work our way south to workable lands. Still, it's been so long since I've played it may be unecessary to set up such a huge challenge - I'm sure to make a few slips so as to provide enough challenge.

Then again, perhaps Loki is lurking somewhere.....

They should all still be alive. If we need them for reference, here's some of the more recent ones:

I'm likely in, I have been super busy with holidays and other commitments as well...

I haven't played in a few YEARS, so a big time challenge may not be necessary for me either...

The threads are there, but a lot of the files themselves are gone.

Exactly: a lot of pretty pictures, just about all of the save files.

We haven't played on an archipelago map in a long while; at D+3, that might make for an interesting challenge in itself -- especially if we start far south or far north on the "vertically enhanced map." It might indeed leave us too isolated for too long -- at least, perhaps, to prevent an AI SS launch. ...

It has been a while ... We'll need Classic 2.42 if we want Barb Wrath ...

Are you suggesting we play as the Vikings again? ;)

Well, as I say, we have room for one more player ... Ever played a succession game before?

I was thinking more along the lnes of being able to remember some of the things we figured out during those games. If the saves were uploaded they are gone since TF deletes the older upload folders every so often.

You know, as I've been getting into the 5th anniversary GOTM, I think I could probably squeeze time in over the next couple months if that last spot is still open, particularly if we don't play too many turns per round once the civ gets bigger. I may not do as much creative writing this time, but you never know when the inspiration might hit.

I probably have many of the saves from the succession games I have been involved with somewhere on my computer, including many saves when it was not my turn to play (because I wanted to monitor how things were going even though it was not my turn). If anyone is interested I can dig up those files.

Regarding the new succession game, it might be interesting to play on an unusual map. For example I once made a large, weird map where I started on a small island. The island was in a big 'lake' completely surrounded by a narrow 'mountain ring' sourrounded by ocean. This meant I didn't meet an AI civ until unusually late in the game. I couldn't reach the mountain ring by trireme and I needed to found two mountain cities to reach the ocean 'outside' the mountain ring. Meeting the AI very late could be a challenge but maybe not very fun in a succession game.

Yes, and am currently playing the tree huggers one at Apolyton. Just finished reading the threads with all the D+2/3 games you guys have played - some fascinating stuff there, as well as some v amusing barb uprisings usually on Jayne's turns. But am relaxed if the spot is taken - happy to lurk.

Given my "Druidic" heritage, I'll have to look into that game.

I think we can accomodate eight players, i.e., both of you ...

Interesting rules (no animal slavery, limited roads, no terrain improvement etc), still at early stage - would be room for more players there I think.

    Excellent!:D

I might be interested as a lurker in the early stages. I'm not free to play much ATM, but I might join later.

(I was wondering when you guys were gonna start another ;) )

Well, I made it back from Arizona alive.

I, for one, would be very interested, having lost a computer a while back ...

At D+3, late contact with the AI civs could be lethal. Also, for a succession game, somebody would have to custom make the map. I'm thinking that playing on an archipalego map, medium land mass should provide a solid challenge as is.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the game? Choice of civs, world age, climate, etc.?

The games so far have been Americans, Vikings, Chinese, Japanese, French. We've had no White, Yellow, Orange or Purple civs yet. I was thinking English since you're talking Archipelago(Start on an island), but honestly, I have no preference.

Do you really think an archipelago will add to the challenge? I'd think that would protect us (or at least isolate damage) from the Wrathful Barbarians although it will make defense tougher to manage as well. I've also never seen the AI expand well across multiple landmasses, so they may be hamstrung by starting on medium to small islands, even at D+n. Eh, I'm sure it will be fine.
