Feinder
Chieftain
Ok, after fighting 2 long wars as the Greeks, with the Persians and their d_mnable Immortals (they're not so Immortal after all), I've captured a strategic (Persian) city on the edge of both of our empires. The city was quite large (relatively-8), and was acting a a major base that he was attacking me from in both wars. It's in good terrain, but beyond it (towards Persia), are a few Persian desert towns before getting into the Persian heartland. With it securely in my hands, he can't really launch a stong attack (because of the long resupply across the desert from his heartland). In my empire tho, it has the potential to be a good production center, and a stong deffensive/offensive bastion against the Persians.
In the past, I've taken great delight in razing cities as I captured them, and because I found it very annoying when a city flipped back to it's old empire. It was usually just easier easier to raze the city, bring up a settler, and force feed workers to build up the new city. But I want to keep this city, because I had fought very hard for it, I don't have a spare settler to bring up (and some other empire would just plant a city by the time I could), and it's kind of the my own "F_ck You" to the Persians (I know the computer doesn't care). It's just he principle of the thing.
The problem is that it's on the edge of my empire (within my borders tho). It's also on the edge of the Persians. Fortunately, it's closer to my capitol. In all the fighting, most of the improvements around the city have been destroyed (but again, it has alot of potential). There are 4 resisting Persians still alive, and all of the improvements have been demolished (nasty bastard). I've got about 12 wounded horsemen and Hoplites that have just occupied the city. I have 8 workers that can reach the city in about 3 turns.
I've never dealt with a "sizable" city of resistors, so I'm taking on advice. I'm definately saving and before I continue.
How many troops to station? and for how long? I don't want the city to flip with my own army inside it, thus giving my hard-won city back to the Persians, and a size-able army with which to attack me.
Do I have my own workers join the city? Thus adding my own folks to the mix, dilluting the dissenters.
Should I quickly irrigate to improve food (and thus population) production?
I'm at work, and can't remember the city screen, can I simply set the Persians to entertainers?
I'm just fairly new to this whole "giving quarter and taking prisoners" thing, so I'm glad to hear what you have to say. I've read the numbers by the Firaxian, and will be putting that knowledge to good use. But I'm kinda wonder what sort of trouble (if any), I may have with this.
Thanks in advance!
