I am still working on getting my fiance to play it. She loves video games, just not civ. Sims 2 seems to be her favorite, and time management games. One thing though, I got her into watching Game of Thrones, so perhaps GnK is right around the corner.

Ironically, the day Gods & Kings comes out, I'll be selling my 24" iMac to replace with an Alienware setup that won't arrive until Thursday. So I'll be limited to playing it on a 13" MacBook Pro. Once the Alienware comes in, I'll have it hooked up to my TV in the living room and have convinced my husband to give Civ V a try in hot seat mode for the first time since, well, ever. I've been playing Civ since 1997, so this will be interesting.

Hot seat is a lot of fun. When my brother is home we play a game together. He is a much better player than I am, but what graet fun that is. Much of the time he is out of town on business lately. So, it is SP for me unless I can get my fiance to try it out. Some coaxing is needed.

i have 2 comps, a PC and a laptop, but my GF will not play.
On a console, player 2 can play without owning their own copy of the game, and we aren't spending the money to get her a full civ 5 set so we can play together, thats insane. If she could play with me for free (like she can on our console games) then yes, i would also suggest ALL of my friends to buy it - the only civ game ive "promoted" related to civ is FFH and only to a couple buddies.
Too bad you can't "player 2" on a separate computer, this alone deters me from 80% of all PC games i might otherwise buy.

I agree that you should be able to play two player on different PCs in your own household. I have two pcs and a laptop, they all hook to my home network. Steam should change this, it would draw many more customers. Where is their business sense?
I introduced Civ 5 to my girlfriend and she took to it pretty quickly. Nowadays most games I play are with Hotseat, passing back and forth between the two of us. She's quite the formidable foe!
Ha! I won a bet, recently. My girlfriend's wager was, to play "this game" with me.
Now, I'm wondering which settings I'll chose to make it a pleasant experience to her. I'm probably going for:
Hotseat
Speed: fast (to avoid boredom)
Size: small (for a faster game, too)
Map: Pangäa (so we meet soon)
I think, we should do a nice CoOp "We-against-the-rest-of-the-world" game.
As I've never played MP before, you might give me a tip:
How do individual difficulty levels influence MP games? In SP games it is obvious, that if I play emperor, the AI will get some bonuses. But what will happen in a hotseat MP game, if my girlfriend plays on warlord and I play on emperor?
Additionally: Which difficulty level should be most fun, if we play mentioned CoOp game? (I don't plan to play "Team", as the shared research would spoil too much of the Civ-experience).
WHAT!
Bejeweled is MY game and you so did not beat me! > I am number one!
Yeah Civ is really a great game, challenging and pretty awesome, graphics are not bad either. I don't know why other girls don't play it- it's so much fun!
Am pretty stoked for the Gods & Kings to come out- however, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE RELEASED FOR MAC? Don't want to be just watching Heinage while he plays with all the new stuff!
I am glad that worked out for you, its a great game, I'm sure she'll get into it.
As for me, I am trying the soothing approach. I told her its not all about war and violence, to appeal to her milder, peaceful outlook on things. She has this idea that everything I like is about war and violence. I wonder how she got that idea?
Anyway, we'll see if she goes for it. I think she'll give it a shot.
I've been trying since December (when we got our new computer and I finally got Civ V) to get my bf to try it but he never does. I think he's convinced that you have to be a history buff to enjoy it. (I mean, it certainly doesn't hurt.)
We have 4 copies and have enjoyed many evenings of family multiplayer, typically teams of 2v2, my wife and I vs the kids, or sometimes when only two of us are playing we end up with a coop game.
The lack of AI contact is a nuisance, and we all hate the simultaneous turns to the point that we have house rules for sequential turns when at war.
It is a nice change from the Role playing games, board games and card games we normally play with family and friends.

It's my dad's fault I'm into Civ in the first place! He's not around any more but if he were I'm sure I could get him to play a game with me.
I introduced my boyfriend to CiV a little while ago after he got bored of WoW. He plays Civ II sometimes and I got him into CIV when I was still playing that regularly as well. He bought his own copy of V in the recent sale, so we could theoretically play against each other in multi now, although we haven't yet. He hasn't bought his own copy of G&K yet but I'll probably let him try it out.
It's quite funny how addicted he is to CiV despite constantly complaining about how awful the AI/diplomacy is
