Here's another proposed modification of an existing unit, this time Kindred72's goblin worker. I made his skin peach, gave him hair, and trunkated his torso a bit so he looked more human. Here's a preview.

Kindred, I hope it's okay if I do this. If not just say so and I won't continue. :)

If I do make this (and I hope to) it will take awhile, since I'll be using paint and there are alot of animations for workers. Plus, I want to finish my clubman first.

By the way, are his arms a problem? They look a little long to me, but maybe this adds to the underfed slave look.

It looks great but a human is actually larger then a goblin... :D

I think Balrog would like to use this in his fanatsy empires mod.. :D

not a problem, However, I was planning on making a unit like this for real anyway. Since, I seem to have the market on worker units right now.:D

My plans were for a human slave worker, an elf worker, and an african slave worker for US civil war senerios.

could you also make a modern version of the Slave Workers, possibly making them look like the old Chain gangs with the white and black striped coveralls?

But since we're talking civ units maybe the stripes shoudl eb civ color and black.

Alrighty, Kindred, I have faith in you. :)
I think that I shall still do a run, default, death, and capture animation for this guy, just to gain some unit experience. Then he can be used as the capture unit, so when you capture a worker he turns into a slave that must be upgraded to be able to work (thus, no work animations needed). And maybe I will complete him, if I have time. :)

Sir John, I know humans are taller than orcs. However, this slave is intended for use in non-fantasy games (although he could still be used for that) so size isn't an issue. :)

And Kal-el, that's a great idea for a modern version. Something like this perhaps? (This is only a painted-over modern worker, and it took me awhile. It will probably prove too tedious to make. Unless someone else wants to try. :))

Wow, that's exactly the idea I had Kal-el. Scary :) I was considering trying to make something like that at some point, but Since it takes me a good month to finish a unit I doubt I'd get around to it.

Yes, something like that, but maybe rather than the ball and chain just put a chain between his legs. I would think that is easier to animate than a ball at the end of the chain.

Pd,

I guess great minds just think alike.

No keep the ball there.. Thats way cool... :D That is a very cool unit.. :D

Will the AI be able to handle this? I'm afraid they will only think this captured guy is useless (as it can't work) and disband him.:suicide:

well, I dont thinks so. There just one way to find out.. test it...

No, the slave is a worker unit with all the worker functions. He has all the abilities of a worker and is already a part of the game. When you capture a worker or a settler or build workers in a captured town you are actually getting slaves, i.e. workers that only work at half the rate of normal workers but don't cost any upkeep.

This graphic change is only to help distinguishh between your homegrown workers and the captured units. And just like the regular worker it should change graphics with the industrial era switch. This can be done in the same manner as the worker and settler graphic switch.

Hey GE haven't You got these guy beaten into submission yet!!  :whipped:
