Another Problem

I am trying to download the save, but when I click on the link it gives me a load of gibberish. Can someone help me with this? If I can't find a way to DL the save can someone who has it email it to me?

I got the gibberish myself, but try to right click on the link and choose "save target as" or something like that. I got a file of 92 kb, but I can't check if it works.

I dled as save target as, but when I saved it, it said save as text file. and that was the onlyoption I had

It has to do with your browser config. My IE 5.5 works fine, but when I tried Opera, it didn't. So, I had not figured out how to configure Opera, is all. How I made IE 5.5 work, I can't recall. Sorry.

I used Opera to download and it worked fine, just press save as... and it works fine!

I'll try IE, since I have IE 6.0, Opera 6.0 and Netscape(one ive tried on, not sure what vers.)

I had no problems with IE 6

My problem isn't downloading the save, it is finding it once I open Civ2. can someone affer advice?

So, you're able to get it as a .sav file then?

What's your default directory for downloads? My Documents?

When you start the download it will ask you where you want to put it. Put it somewhere you can find it, like your desktop or in the actual Civ directory.

Here's the steps I went through to download the file.

First Screen.

This asks me if I want to save it or open it, I choose save.

Second Screen.

This is where I can choose where to save the file.

Third Screen.

This is showing where I can change where I am saving the file.

Is your different from this?

OK, I'll try exactly what you did, although I think thats what I'm doing.

EDIT- I did that, I dowloaded the save in to my CIV2 directory, I can see it in my Civ2 Directory, but when I go onto Civ 2 I can't find it. This problem is kind of annoying to me because I don't have any knowledge of our science and won't be able to do my job until it is fixed. From now until the problem is fixed, MonkE will be the acting Science Advisor.

So, you're getting the file to your computer as a .sav, correct? The filename is exactly as it is in the screenshots? mr_a860.sav. And the save type is listed as .sav?

And when you're in your Civ 2 game, it's looking for .sav files, right? Not .net or .hot, right?

You can see the .sav file if you go to that directory, but the game doesn't see it?

If all the above is correct, then try to do some screenshots that can show us what is going on.

Even the game I e-mailed you doesn't show up to load in Civ?

That is correct, even the game you emailed me doesn't work. It is late now and I have school in the morning so I will get some sc's up tomorrow or Tuesday.

That's very weird..... Does the in game screen show the rest of the JO saves? I see 3 in the folder directory, but only 2 in the game directory. 3 MA saves in the main folder, but only 1 in the game dir. None of the LE saves show up in the game dir shot.

You scrolled through the entire list of games and the Demo games aren't there huh? Not at the very bottom or very top?

That's weird how some games are showing, but not others....

I notice that the game dir is Civ2/Civ2, I'm assuming the main dir shot is for the exact same folder...?

I've checked and double checked and the DGs aren't there. I will check about the dir shot, although I think it is correct.

Try making a new directory within your Civ 2 Directory called something like 'DG' or 'DemoGames'. Try copying the saves into there and see if they show up that way.

I don't know if this matters either, but the DG saves are lowercase .sav, while the rest of the games are uppercase .SAV, maybe try re-naming them and see if it helps.....?

I tired making some dummy games and renaming them exactly as your are, but they all showed up.

In your screenshot none of the Lowercase .sav files appeared in the list - they were all .SAV files. I had a similar problem uploading to the server where it didn't accept .JPG but only .jpg files.

Try renaming the file so it is .SAV
