This is related again to the need of simplification of objects on the map as it is likely to lead to crashes.

How about getting rid of archeologists?
Or option 2, archeologists AND sites.
They appear in industrial era, so they may have a relevant impact on performance.

Pros and cons please.

Getting rid of archeologists will render Antiquity Sites totally useless - or I should say unusable, just polluting the map.

The sites can no longer be transformed into a tile improvement providing culture, nor into an object stored in museum. Both options provide culture.

For me option 2 is very acceptable to improve performance because:
  • there are other ways to get culture
  • industrial era is barely playable with current performance for me
  • most of the time the player will win before

As an adjustment, Museums should either be removed OR adjusted back to Vanilla/G&K:
Vanilla and Gods & Kings
  • Common traits:
    • +5 Culture
    • 2 Artist Specialist Slots
Brave New World
  • Common traits:
    • +1 Culture
    • 2 Great Work of Art or Artifact slots

Cons:
  • I will miss the diplomacy tension rising when you dig your rivals' artifacts
  • This was a nice way to build friendhorsehocky with CS:
As of the Fall 2013 patch, archaeology may also be used as a reasonable means of increasing diplomatic standing with nations or City-States - for that to happen, you need to reach a site within the territory of the other nation/City-State and convert it into a Landmark. The resulting gratitude is immediately transferred into diplomatic benefits, or City-State Influence. This is a good strategy when you're going for a diplomatic victory and don't need a serious Tourism output!
