And you say this because soldiers who are injured during operations do not receive a lifetime of free or subsidised healthcare if necessary? I didn't know that.

9/11 is like the Powerball of disasters... if you're a first responder to a big disaster like that, you can really cash in, but if your numbers don't come up and you're just stuck rescuing some family from a house in Queens, you're on your own. No special handouts for 9/11 survivors.

This was prob a pretty smart move politically. The Dem base is pretty demoralized (which is the reason why so many house races aren't competitive). The rest of the country will forget about this in three days, but I promise this is being played in every DCCC office and shared in every activist's email.

Now wait a second. Whats this:

To me, this sounds like the dems tried to screw the GOP over in regards to being able to add amendments, and it backfired on them.

So, the dems tried to play partisan politics and the GOP retaliated....and now this is all the GOPs fault?

Also, I need to ask: Were the rescue workers and survivors of the Oklahoma city bombing or first World Trade Center bombing going to be given lifetime medical care as well? If not, then why not?

What in the hell are you talking about? Now, granted, I haven't read the bible in quite some time. But I seem to recall that somewhere it says that everyone is supposed to a 10% tithe to the church for charitable purposes and to help the poor. Nowhere do I remember Jesus saying, "You don't have to give unless you make $40,000 a year, and then you pay 25%. If you earn more than $250,000 you have to pay 34% to the government for every dollar thereafter."

10% goes to God because God would like to see it voluntarily given.
20% goes to the wanna be God who demands it and will imprison you for not giving.

I think there's a disconnect here with any liberal who uses the "Jesus was a socialist" schtick.

Thats one of the 5 Pillars of Islam.
Jesus also didn't say we all had a right to carry a machine gun and concealed handguns without a permit, but some Conservatives think he did. If they can interpret the Bible, so can we.

You're right. Jesus said give it all away. Lets go full hog rather than just 10%.

The measure was blocked because GOP House members were going to add amendments to repeal heath care legislation.

Where do you think Islam got the idea from?

What on earth are you talking about? Good gravy...

You passages on Acts say nothing about requirements to give everything away and share you possessions. It talks about how the apostles lived, and nothing about what they were required to do. When the Apostles who occupy Mordor on the Potomac begin giving away their riches instead of other peoples property, I may be a bit more compelled to follow them.

I'm a bit lost as to what the hell you're talking about. Please discuss this statements relevance at length.

Oh, so both parties were going to use the "9/11" / "First Responder" schtick to paint the other side as not supporting 9/11 or first responders. Glad to see Washington is functioning and spending trillions of our earned and earned tax payer dollars at their own personal whims.

Merkinball, according to Acts to be a true Christian you have to do this.

I'm pointing out that if conservatives can twist the Bible to suit their own ends, why can't everyone else?

When it talks about the apostles and doing what God wanted, that sounds like they were required.

You can't just pull a bunch of bogus crap out of your butt and pretend its the truth. The bible doesn't say anything about the second amendment or firearms, because, as luck may have it, firearms weren't invented yet, and the constitution didn't exist.

Then how come some nutjobs consider the right to own assault rifles their God given rights even though God makes no mention of that?

What did the victims of the Oklahoma city bombing ever get?

So? When the republicans were in the majority the dems did this all the time.

Its called how our government works.

The Dems tried to be partisan about this and got the door shut on their foot, but its a result of their own action here.

@Ajidica: Stop saying what true christianity is about...you dont have a clue.

God didn't invent capitalism, condemn homosexuality or declare that the United States of America was His chosen nation either, but that doesn't stop certain people (even on CFC) from stating that he did. For the record, He didn't create the English language or commission the King James Bible - funnily enough, that last was James VI & I.

Jesus did say to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Taxation is most definitely Caesar's, in that respect.

I actually agree. He was certainly passionate. It would make for a more popular CSPAN lineup...maybe they could change the election process in the US to something like this: a panel of judges, and an audience, and each Congressman gives a speech, and then the people can text their vote to 59052 or whatever.

I still think what he was passionate about was political positioning rather than help for people though.
