Any idea about re-colouring civs?

I've looked through some modding manuals, but I've only some big manuals about adding-new-units etc, and it's definitely hard to read them all (especially if you are not fluent in English). So, I'm interested, how to change colours and bages of the civs? I've had some success with modding some ParadoxGames and I have some ideas about graphics.
