Any programs or tips to improve speed between turns?

Hi everyone, aside from the basic tips (low res, less AI civs, smaller maps etc.), is there anything I can do to speed up waiting time between turns?

I remember someone posting on the forum that he tweaked some settings or used so program to get an almost 30% increase in speed, but I can't find the post anymore.

Anything else I can try? Like overcloaking, tweaking settings, third party programs etc.

Already using any mod? Mods have managed to speed up the GameCore DLL considerably. But then there's the question of the gameplay changes that those mods will also bring ... Replacing python24.dll in the BtS install dir with these two versions has slightly reduced turn times for me, but probably by no more than 5%. I'd recommend keeping a backup of the original python24.dll. (What it says in the thread about "the DLL in the Caveman2Cosmos\Assets directory" refers to a third DLL – the GameCore DLL specific to the C2C mod –, which is not attached to the opening post.)

CivilizationIV.ini ... I don't know if full screen vs. windowed mode makes a difference and which would be faster. Full screen might give the process more priority. Probably no big difference. Turning off autosaves would obviously help a little, but is most likely not worth it. Turning off logging also not likely to help (probably already mostly or entirely turned off). I have set SetMaxFrameRate = 30, which I feel should suffice for a strategy game, but, if anything, I expect that to reduce power consumption a little bit. Turning animations and particle effects off via the options menu will probably also help only negligibly. I don't think any of the graphical options are performance hogs on present-day hardware. The Show Friendly/Enemy Moves options of course take up time; Quick Moves should make that a little better.

Bigger maps and more AIs are going to be slower. The game natural slows down over time as you play and advance in the game. When it gets sluggish, ALT+TAB out of the game and come back, which should give you some respite from the sluggishness.

...or rather save the game, quit and reload.
