Any way to make Deity less difficult? BTW - I think people fake beating Deity

plus they seem to always have the current units to the top civ, so if you’re off to a slow start you can have Barb cavalry attacking your chariots. Turning them off makes things a bit more believable in my opinion.

Thanks for this comment. I always thought that barbarians had less than the most advanced tech. There are many times I've avoided war under the premise that if the barbarians have Man-At-Arms, other civs must have at least Musketmen and I'd get slaughtered. I Googled the best I could and it does seem that they have about the latest tech. (Which also means if you are ahead of the AI you'd better build the units you research as the barbs will be coming with them). If other civs are at the same level as the barbs, I should just go conquer them! :)

I do not get it. I can be beat the computer on Emperor pretty consistently and yet, I cannot beat Deity. What really bothers me is that AI can do everything so much faster and yet I cannot keep up no matter how hard I try despite having watched hours and hours of videos on Youtube. I do not mind the AI starting out with more cities and units but is there anyway to slow it down on research, putting up walls and cranking out units cavalry while I barely have Knights and a few cities out?

It is super frustrating. I am not dumb. I have a PhD and consider myself reasonably smart. But I am starting to get the suspicion that people beating Deity fake it. They say they beat Deity but in reality, they make it look as if they did. I tell you why I think this: because the game play on Youtube looks nothing like what I experience with units flying around.

One time I lost in 50 turns by way of religion with a handful of cities to my name. And what is the deal with barbarians being able to produce better units in less time? Like the WTF? There is no chance that people are winning on deity when barbs have horsemen and you are still stuck with warriors and archers. If you cannot beat barbs, how can you beat 'regular' civs? By the time, I get anywhere near reasonable units to defend myself, it is all over, and yet I see people rushing the AI with warriors and archers and winning -- WTF? How is this possible when city states and regular civs have walls by like turn 10?

Yes, it is all about production, getting science boosts, cranking out settlers and promoting / upgrading units, but it is like everything from research to production slows down to the point where it feels like that the game is not just deliberately favouring the AI but also undermining everything I do.

Screw this game and the town from where it came!!!!

I did manage to beat the game on every difficulty level at least once, but I tend to play the religion game, and often end up winning diplomatically by accident. I do tend to back up if I screw up however. I’m really picky about losing units - that can really set you back behind the AI which has some crazy buffs.

If you already beat immortal and emperor and are trying to beat deity then I feel your pain. I'm in emperor and it has been difficult, it's no easy task. Rebellions appear more often, other civilizations out-tech you and out-culture you also so you cant pursue a peaceful victory. Deity really is too hard and I haven't seen the videos closely on how they do it but some people have complained that the AI could be dumb sometimes but I don't feel that's the way because the AI works and does so much smart stuff for itself that I kind of hope that they make a dumb mistake but that's not usually the case.

I hand the AI religious victory all the time. Forget someone has a majority religion in my unholy lands and conquer every other civ for them to win. Nothing like dominating a game and hitting next turn to see the you lost screen.

As far as Deity goes I play on standard everything (Most setting changes feel like they favor the human) and can still beat the game with total domination, controlling religion, science, gold, and conquering every last city.

There are a million little things but the two biggest are getting the start right and using the AI to kill the AI.

Start may take 10-15 tries going to turns around 50-100. Once you have a good start though you are golden.

Easiest way to win is to conquer your closet neighbor. Like most tasks this is more fun if you bring a friend. Even better is find an AI that is already dying to another and jump in on that war.

If you play your cards right you will enter t100 on standard speed with a good core of 3-4 of your own cities and another several of the AIs. If you can repeat with another AI to take out a 3rd and then you should be crushing. The only thing stopping you may be a runaway on the other continent, and even then it is probably not stopping you just making your game hours longer due to the slog fest of running them down.

Chin up, friend. Yes, it is possible to win on deity. And most people do not post their hopeless games getting rushed by 2+ aggro CIVs when there is just no space to move around. Those games happen too. Good starts, good environment, and good decisions do lead to deity wins. Knowing when you have all of those in place is super important. If it helps, check out the first 5 mins or so of this video I made:

Here, you'll see me restart at a critical point in order to create those three conditions and then find a way to win.

One of the goals of my channel is to get people to elevate their game and be able to play on deity. For me, deity is the most fun because I can win, these days I usually win, but I don't always win which is what makes it so fun. Anyway, I hope you check it out and don't give up on testing yourself on deity. When you get there, it's really satisfying and worth the frustration. And, hot tip, in a couple of months, I will make a video about how to win a space race victory on deity every time with any CIV. For me, winning a space race is kind of the last resort win condition because it's the easiest to achieve.

I also have a video on there about how to assess your start location. It could also help.

Good luck!
