Though it looks like this forum is a bit worn out, I can tell you I already received 16 submissions. Unfortunately, still a lot of people submit in the last days, so there are probably more coming up.

What's up, guys? Is Civ2 dead? Or are you all just waiting for the next GOTM?

I´m still here, although i´ve been posting in other forums (history) lately.

I believe that most of us finished the GOTM12 already several days ago. At least I did 2 weeks ago after an early conquest.
It was a small map after all.

Speaking for myself and hopefully for at least 9 other Civ2-fanatics, I´m eagerly waiting for the next GOTM.

And most of us have already written in the spoiler thread, commented on the last results and discussed further developments.

And unfortunately I have 4 exams coming up next week , so not much free time for me. It´s almost end of the term in German universities and maybe somewhere else, too. And there seem to be several students playing the GOTM so maybe they share the same evil :flamedevi fate as me.


BTW Matrix, did you receive my submission? Hopefully!
You could post the names of the ones you received as you did last month to confirm it.
Just a suggestion.

I'm busy trying to play the game, don't have time for no stinkin forums....

I'm not even up to 1AD yet....

Hopefully I can actually finish this one this month. Maybe we could get an extra day or two to submit since the game was posted late to start with...?

How much time did you devote to the Civ2-GOTM until now? 5 hours? Three fourth of the month are over!

I´m not criticizing you but with such little enthusiasm it is no wonder you find it hard to finish.
The time till 1AD flies on this level and on this map.
I finished BC and I really took my time to precisely position my units but even so I finished within one evening (well more like late night ).

I know most of you (us) have enough other things to do, but this was the shortest Civ2 game I ever experienced, even if you milk it to the end.
I´m occupied with studying myself, remember:
4! EXAMS WITHIN ONE! WEEK
But if you can´t finish this one, you´ll never will!

It has nothing to do with enthusiasm, just time.

Usually, I don't have an hour, let alone an entire night to play the game during a week.

I would say about 5 hours is about right so far...

Why would I be offened that I have other things to do? I know when I was in college I had plenty of time to play, but now with a job, a business, a house, and a wife, there are other things that have to come first.

If I don't finish, that just leaves my spot open for someone else.

I've tried to eliminate the job item, but they just don't like the idea of paying me if I don't actually work there.

The one listed last includes quite a bit of leisure. :love2:

Hi Matrix:

I'm a totally newbi at this game. I discover de GOTM a couple of weeks ago and actually i'm playing it. It's about 500ad. I kill de Germans and i have about 15 cities. I'm the number 1 in almost everything, far away from the other civs. All my cities have 8+ citicenz, but i'm not military powerfull.

I know this record is too far from a good one, but it's my first GOTM

Don´t worry, it sound like a pretty solid game for Emperor! Why don´t write your story into the GOTM12 *Spoiler* thread? Everyone who has played this GOTM and discovered most the world can take part in the discussions there. The *Spoiler* thread is actually created for writing about one´s own game!
You can also learn from reading about other people´s games!
But remember, just go there if you already know the map, but 500AD should be fine.

Hey, it´s not that I´m swimming in free time myself, at least right now. I´m giving myself only a maximum of a one hour break from learning today.
Remember those 4 exams!
That´s why I was playing early conquest this month.
And I had just been wondering. 5 hours for Civ2 isn´t really much within over half of a month!

Hmm, this doesn´t seem right for a REAL CivFanatic! It should be more like:
CIV, CIV, CIV, ..., Civ2, Civ3, SMAC, Civ1, ..., job, business, house, wife

BTW, what does your wife say if you put her last in the list?!

I'm still playing and will submit, I'm building a full size spaceship and will complete and land in time, for now I'm expanding my empire and adding as many citizens and futurte techs as possible.

I could have finished off the last remainin AI some time ago, only London remains and has only one unit, and the city is surrounded and unable to grow or increase production above its one shield. So its an easy kill if I start running out of time to finish by my preferred route.

It may be that the earlier finish could have got me more GOTM points but building the CIV is more fun.

I'm here. I've been pretty busy as of late and need to step it up in order to finish this one. Hopefully I can finish soon and get in the top 5 this month. I have talked to a few civ fans I know and in the future they may come here to play civ2 GOTM also We don't need 60 people, just 10-20 that are willing to play it out and make the competition a good one. I can't wait until starlifter comes back

I am here! I usually get killed by the Celts and submit early but this time I have survived. Have about 8 turns to go before my ship comes in. Will probably finish up tomorrow so i can be ready for the FAB FEB GOTMs.

I notice you often get killed, donsig, yet continue participating with the GOTM. I think that's the way to go: never give up.

I only ended even lower than you in the GOTM III for Civ3.

That is not an easy thing to do!


I think I'm improving in both Civ II & III, but still play the GOTMs for fun. I've learned alot about Civ III from playing in some successsion games.

As for Civ II, I'll probably only be playing it when I play the GOTM from now on.

Glad to hear there were more submissions this time around. Hope that means the Civ II GOTM will stay alive a bit longer.

Doubt I'll finish, as I stuck with GOTM11 to the end even though I was past the finish date. I started #12 very recently cause it looked interesting, and my game is going great, but I'm only in the very early AD's and have a busy weekend. If Civ 2 GOTM's continue, I'll keep trying to get one finished in time. High level/small maps sure help

Well it certainly doesn't help the forum when there is dead time between GOTM's.

GOTM 12's deadline is here, so that one is over. I figured I would check in and see if I could get a jumpstart on GOTM 13, but it's not here yet. I'm sure Thunderfall is busy with other things, but why was the Civ 3 GOTM posted on time but the Civ II GOTM is now almost 2 days late? :crazyeyes

It sure doesn't help keep the Civ II GOTM alive when there is no actual game to play.
