Anyone else quit playing?

My friends and I got through about three multiplayer games before we quit. We all agreed the game's AI just killed it. Also tons of CTD's whenever the AI took its turn that required us to load in as the AI, delete their units, and load back out. About the third time that happened we pretty much threw up our hands on the game and decided if it didn't want us to play it, we weren't going to argue.

We were in uniform opinion that the game has mega-problems. We were all excited about limited-use workers, but by the time we were finished we all agreed it was an awful idea that annoyed the hell out of us. We all agreed production took way too long even on normal speed. We all hated the unit upgrade system. Also, oceans -- we all agreed ocean tiles were way under-tuned, and there was literally no reason to ever build on a coast, which has ripple effects all through the rest of the game, e.g. since nobody has coastal cities there's no reason to ever build a navy since it can never help you with blockading. By the end of the game even the one of us who was really pro-1UPT was fed up with all the missionaries and other BS blocking roads making the game really obnoxious to play... Consensus was the game should have tried to find its own way instead of trying to be Civ 5 2.

What's wrong about the upgrade system? It's the same as Civ V: put a unit in your borders and pay to upgrade them. Also, a navy is important since other naval units can just ride over embarked land units.

But I agree with the other points. Coastal cities seem terrible unless they have many resources or a Natural Wonder around.

I'm a CIV lover. I mean, I love the concept. I play the original civ boardgame from avalon hill, i love Through the Ages, card games like innovation, civ 1 2 3 and 4 on a computer. Even civ 5 to a certain point. At least i played it alot. Civ6? Played it half way through three or four times, and thats it. This never happened with me and a CIV game before... I'd rather play civ 1 with cga graphics and internal speaker. :)

I stopped playing too, for somewhat different reasons. I now await 'At the Gates'. I hope it will be good.

Nope. I haven't stopped playing. I'm still having lots of fun going through the leaders one by one, getting victories.

I actually want to play, but I'm a rather slow player and am expecting a patch/dlc soon, so I can't bring myself to start a new game just now. ^^"

No.

I have not stopped playing. These threads are interesting. Clearly some folks have systems that cannot handle the game or are using incompatible mods.

I play on YAMPGC's map mod which takes it further with Enormous and Giant maps. No issues, no crashes nothing. 220+ hours so far and I am loving the game.

Posts where you state..we all agreed. ...such as>>.

Clearly this is not the case for the majority of players. You seem to be in the minority, about workers as many folks feel that is one of the best features in the game, (along with Districts).

In the End, its a game. Play it or don't. I have Civ IV on my shelf along with Warlords and BTS, but none of them are installed as i prefer the better game that is Civ VI.

Cheers.

I haven't stopped playing but I am getting close to stopping, until the next patch comes out. The AI's inability to actually threaten me allows me to basically ignore military until I want to easily take someone over, and that's kind of killing it for me. Also the severe warmongering penalities, which makes diplomacy useless b/c none of the positive modifiers matter anymore.

Also can we have a positive modifier for being DOW'd on and NOT taking a city in response?

Oh yea I quit playing... mainly bc I get bored easily of games and I also am doing A LOT of weatherization to my home so I may play a few hours a week but overall I am definitly done playing on any real hardcore way. If Civ6 was one of a few games I owned I might end up playing it more but I also have a lot better ones to choose from. I hope they come out with an AI patch before Christmas.

I quit the game after a week or so.

The AI is just killing EVERYTHING for me. The fact that i poses no threath beyond the early rush is just laughable.

And the fact that most of the map is unsettled at the end game is just so freaking game busting. I've seen players on Deity complain about AI not settling 2nd city before turn 50. TURN 50!?!?!? On the HARDEST DIFFICULTY!?

This should be a game of power, science, wars and exploration. Instead it's more like a SimCity without military (unless you want to conquer someone. Which you just can easily)

I'm a true Civ fan and I have played every title since Civ I. Civ 5 took me a year or so too before it was fun (it had major AI difficulties at the beginning too, like the AI never expanding)

Yes I have. This weekend I noticed on Steam that I have clocked 250 hours since launch so it was no surprise that I wanted something else.

Happy customer here, had very good times but for a while no more banjo music. Can't wait for new content, not out of a feeling of lack but because I already like what was in there already. Fortunately I ordered the deluxe version.

Really recommend multiplayer with a group of people that don't quit. There's vastly more enjoyment testing wills and intellects with people than an inept AI, facing asymmetrical strategies and standing a chance at actually losing can be quite a thrill.

With regard to some of the complaints...it's a new game and you have to adapt a bit. Builder changes were brought on by a desire to have the player make more meaningful and active decisions. You can be annoyed or you can identify it as another area where optimization can generate advantage over your opponents. Biggest reasons for settling on the coast are simply to place more cities and maximize your population/worked tiles per stretch of defensible land, and also seaside resorts are very strong for a tourism victory as well as a big source of gold. Building harbors and getting more trade routes is another reason to settle near coast. Yeah ocean tiles are a bit weak and on many maps there isn't a huge reason to build a navy. I expected ocean trade to be much more lucrative than land trade (as a prominent reason for building navies) and I was shocked that there's no difference, but it certainly doesn't break the game for me.

The good news is there will be more content and patches, and someday that Civ itch will come back to you. :)

Haven't quit, and enjoying playing leaders one by one. I've won all my games except in deity, where I lost all but one. (If I was winning easily in deity I may feel differently.)

I dislike the weak AI, but I do like builders with limited charges, eureka moments, separate civ/tech trees, districts and their planning, new great people system, and elimination of diplomacy wins. I especially like that the initial version of Civ IV managed to preserve most of the features (espionage, trade, religion) from the the latest versions of Civ V, and didn't do a big "reset" of features.

I have also shelved the game. This iteration just doesn't excite me as much as the previous and I struggle to hold interest in every single game I have played with the max being middle ages before 'boredom quitting'.

The woeful attempt at an AI is just the mold-infested sour cherry on top that makes the whole thing unpalatable at the moment. I can only endure so many immersion breaking games before realizing a restart will not result in different outcomes.

Everytime I'm about to quit I mod the thing that was bothering me. :) I got the game pretty close to where I want now. I'd still like better AI, but changing some game rules around movement, expansion rate or borders, Niter, etc really make the game better for me.

I disagree about the builders - great concept in my opinion.

But I agree with your other points and have quit playing some weeks ago.

The game is fun for sandbox players, because it has many and very interesting features and balancing isn't actually that bad. It's hardly playable for those of us who rely on a decent AI to enjoy the game. I could bear all its other flaws, but that kills it for me.

(I'm assuming that when you say "upgrade system" you mean "promotion system"? Because as has been mentioned the upgrade system is just the same as before.)

I have over the last couple of weeks but I have played 190 hours so slightly burnt out. I do love the game but it just lacks that fear factor as the AI is far too passive in wars and once you hit the middle ages wars just seem to disappear...so I am waiting on a patch which tightens up some of the game mechanics and hopefully the AI is more competitive in all areas.
