So I'm just wondering if its possible to change your capital to another city without losing it in a war.

Not in Civ V for some reason. I guess they figured since there's no distance-from-capitol penalties that we wouldn't need it. I can think of a few scenarios, though, where it might come in handy.

Oh, and also, "original" capitols are significant in gameplay, so I guess they didn't want to confuse the issue.

Shouldn't be able to because your capital must be captured for domination. You could just change it to a tiny 2-square island with a citadel and two nice ranged units and be pretty much uncapturable with a nice navy, or set it in a nice mountain alcove.

*Dumps a ICBM on said capital.*

What uncaptureable city.
