    Neither did Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Anglo-Boer_War

Besides, we're not talking about USA, but Australian and New Zealand servicemen who died protecting the freedoms we Australians and New Zealanders now take for granted.

Have a bit of respect. That goes for the other sepos who've insulted ANZAC Day.

It was part of a campaign to try and get Ottoman Turks out of the war, but it was always doomed to fail. AS per the History thread, naval warfare would have been a better option.

Anyway I went to the Dawn Service. And while it is not a celebration, the event did help to give our nation an Identity is needed after just being formed. Also the fact that the war gave way to the ANZAC biscuit, is a good thing.

Salute to all diggers and kiwis past and present. Great people, and excellent soldiers.

Just heard recently about a kiwi fighting for the crown, one James McKie. Testament to the spirit I've seen a lot amongst their people.

Uh... the Japanese were sure planning to.

Why is everyone dwelling on Gallipoli? ANZAC day is for all Aussies/NZers who have served in war.

The Japanese were going to invade and oppress Australia if the Australians and Kiwis didn't invade Gallipoli?

Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

Now, why would the Japanese invade then? Wouldn't they want to invade went the Aussies and Kiwis were fighting in Gallipoli? Less troops to defend the continent then!

As i stated before I wasnt talking about Gallipoli.

And regardless, the day isnt to celebrate military victories, it's to remember the loss of life.

It is very disgusting to see the completely dis-respectful and spiteful comments by our so called American friends. Their complete lack of respect for our cultural beliefs and arrogance is beyond measure. But then I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, since it is America we're talking about. ANZAC Day is NOT about the Gallipoli campaign. It is a remembrance of all Australians and New Zealanders who gave their life in the line of duty for their country. The men and women of Australia and New Zealand who died in the Boer War, WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Timor, Guinea, Peace-keeping, Afghanistan and Iraq deserve a LOT more respect from our so-called American allies than they have shown in this thread.

Unlike Americans, we do not celebrate the destruction of another country's sovereignty, culture and people. We mourn the lost lives and the mothers, wives and children who lost their fathers.

Moderator please close this thread since it has been soiled by the Americans, like almost everything on this planet. Moderator Action: trolling: nationality bashing

I like the Ottomans and I disapprove of your part in contributing to their downfall.

We shouldn't remember the veterans who defended Australia from the Japs in Turkey.
