Does it stack?

If I defy a resolution, and the person re-does the same resolution, do I get +10  in all cities with the resolution.

If so, what is considered the "rightful owner" of a city? The civ to found it? The majority of culture?

I don't think you get the happiness penalty from the AP, at least you arn't supposed too. When you defy the AP you're only supposed to lose the hammer bonus.

Of course you get the happiness penalty. But it doesn't stack: In a recent game I defied a resolution for peace three times in a row but the penalty remained at +5 Unhappiness.

I was allways assuming it would stack. Not Stacking would make it almost bearable...

In my experience, yes the unhappiness does stack. It really sucks, and it's one of the reasons I despise the AP. i almost always raze it when I'm conquering.

Yes, it stacks.
Defying a resolution doesn't always mean you'll get the unhappiness penalty.
Only when there was a majority to support the resolution.

Ooo, thats NOT good news.

Luckily Christianity is only in a few cities, but sadly, one of those cities is currently building the Taj Mahal, which is going to have an AWESOME golden age (so plains ARE good for something :P)

If only there was another way (the AP is too far in too attack) to stop this... Lets hope that the Ottomans and the Americans fall out with each other...

Thanks all. Now I know what I need to do..

Don't be so sure. If you posted a savegame, we could look at it more closely. But an incursion force needs far fewer troops than an invasion force. If you manage to raze the city, it's a victory even if you lose every unit involved in the assault, so long as you don't lose anything of value (e.g., a significant science city of your own). Is there any water nearby that would let you get there in fewer turns? What about getting your stack to somebody else's territory via an open borders agreement, DOWing, and launching the invasion from that vector? The AI probably won't realize you're specifically going after the AP city, so you may be able to pull it off, particularly if you're in a pre-railroad era.

Of course, then you have to sue for peace and live with the consequences. It's probably worth it, though.

AP resolutions are nasty, that's for sure. You get unhapiness penalties for some stupid council not of your religion, or even if you're non-religious. I make it a point to declare war just to raze that one city. It's that annoying.

I think that the first question is answered fully, now about the second one...

What classifies a city as "The rightful owner"

If it is the builder of the city (the civ that made the settler make the city), I am going to kill my economy trying to attack the civ.

If it is the majority of culture, then I won't attack, and I will disband most of my milatary.

Any ideas?
