Just received this email from DanQ of Apolyton:

"We (the ACS administration) and our hosts are currently aware of the server problems and the extended (24hrs.+) downtime that has resulted to date. Our hosts have been busy working on diagnosing and resolving the problem and as of yet we have not received any word as to the exact nature of the problem; at this point, however, they are undoubtedly concentrating their effort on getting the server back online in as timely and efficient manner as possible. It is not aware if the intermittent blackouts
experienced earlier this week are related to the present difficulties, but at this point nothing is being ruled out.

We have begun to receive emails from concerned fans about our current circumstances, and we do appreciate your concern. From this point on we will most likely respond to such letters by directing people to locations where they can find updates on our status, such as on this fellow Civilization fansite that has generously agreed to relay our status reports during our downtime, as opposed to including it in the response directly.

For those of you who are wondering what you can do to assist, we thank you for your offer but at this point the most help you can be to us is to continue to remain patient and understand that all of us at Apolyton and our hosting administrators are doing what we can. Finally, for those whom have already written and plan to write in criticizing our apparent action or lack thereof before and during the commencement of this downtime, please
take into consideration the following: while we recognize your frustrations (and know that we share them too), such statements are not helpful and moreover do not take all variables into account. If you would like a greater detailed explanation as to our current hosting arrangements, feel free to write me -- in a civilized tone -- and I will respond to it as soon as is possible.

In closing, as soon as we receive a more detailed report on the present state of affairs, it will be passed along to you via the said method and indeed word of mouth thereafter. Thank you for your time and continued support".

I'll post a news about this on the main page...

ooh! i see a real veteran posting here! someone who know that many posters here also have a poly account too:rolleyes:

I don't know whether its just me, and my insane habit of examining eevery thing too much, but I only use it for downloads, and even then I feel like i've betrayed someone. But that site is REALLY hard to navigate.

Thanks TF. :goodjob:

I don't want to knock another civ fan-site, but CFC is IMHO the better of the two. It seems we get the more talented of the bunch as far as units and stuff go. I used to hang around there alot more, but their general forum has become a warzone. I dread whenever Apolyton goes down, because I imagine an influx of bad blood bearing down on here.

Well, I wouldn't wanna be that swift in my judgement. ACS is way bigger than CFC, has more 'nerdy' people who can bring forth the more complex utilities (e.g. Gramphos with his Civ3CopyTool), actually cares about other Civ-related issues besides Civ2&3 (CtP, BGH, MoO, etc), etc...

I'm not saying CFC is inferior, I'm saying it's different. Both sides have their advantages and disadvantages. As an avid CtP-player and modder I don't have much choice (CFC has no CtP community to speak of), but as Civ-fan in general, I enjoy the best of both worlds...

I look at Ap as a neccesary evil ;)
They do have the "nerdy-able to break down anything in the game to a mathetical formula" type over there. Some of the best ideas for Civ2 I have seen come from Ap.

Ah, Apolyton!
Gotta love 'em:D
They are, after all, the one board where I am becoming a semi regular poster, but my post count will remain forever at 1.
(OT does not count:( ;))
They are as the Pale Horse said, a useful source of technical information, and those who study the biology and habitat of trolls;)

I'm sure they will get it cleared up soon enough.

No more Apolyton knocks, they are our sister site, not our enemy.

Its has already been remidied some hours ago. The default was not at poly or gamestats this time, but at an internet connection serving their area. A geographical tract was cut off for a day or so.

LOL, that's like the 5th time in the last week that people have completely ignored my posts. Am I that invisible or has everyone put me on their ignore list? :D ;)

Moderator Action: It has nothing to do with ignoring you, that is a Moderator statement to the membership by myself.

I read all the posts in a given thread.
