Hey, I just started a new game, and this time I have gotten into something called "Apostolic Palace". Which makes me vote for wether to declare war, stop trading etc. I noticed there are other nations in this too, so I was wondering. Is this somekind of medieval NATO? And what are the pros and cons of Apostolic Palace?:)

yeah it's the new BtS ultra-early religious UN. it's pretty nifty but also really bizarre. the civilopedia has it listed under "beyond the sword concepts" as the easiest way to find it i think. main thing to remember is, it will always be the state religion that original builder had when it was created (whether that was you or whether you captured it, i don't know, but it doesn't matter). it doesn't convert with you like spiral minaret does, so keep that in mind.

it adds some funky new stuff to the game! i can't think of any quick guides to it offhand. there are lots of threads about it, but naturally most of them are people complaining about what they'd change about it, same as a lot of threads around here *giggle*.

welcome to CFC, good luck and have fun! :)

Hehe, thanks for the quick answer!

One more thing tho. When you play in the "play now!" mode. Can you go on with endless turns, or do you have to end it sometime?

If you want endless turns, go and disable Time Victory in starting game menu. But, I think you must go to single player-> custom game and then choose right settings...

Pros: If you have it and you're a large empire... more power to you

Cons: If you don't have it and are definitely not part of its religion... well either vote no and hope for best or defy it...
I had Izzy build it and she demanded we stop trading with Monty. I should have defied the resolution instead of voting No...
Monty was quite angry but was powerless to stop me! I had a large, Buddhist Empire (running Free Religion)...

Can you have the Apostolic Palace and the UN run side-by-side? An AI has the Palace (and far from Mass Media) and you have the UN?

Scenario:
Izzy: Declare war on the infidel Gandhi (me)
Me: Using my large empire and powers over the UN I demand the wars cease and desist
Izzy: Curse you and your United Nations!
Everyone else: I'm confused. Let's vote never next time!
Monty: Agreed! Now gimmie tribute or I'll axemen rush you!

I confess, the AP has me completely mystified.

Is there a tutorial/article/strat guide on it someplace?

Are there conditions that allow certain kinds of votes, e.g. you must have the religion spread to x% of the world's population before the diplo win option is enabled?

Some people said that wou could get diplomatic victory with AP.
Is that true, and if yes, how?
This is called a "religious victory" (it counts as a diplomatic victory). You can find info about it in the civilopedia->beyond the swords concepts->apostolic palace->"religious victory" paragraph (just above "united nations updates" headline)

it just says "Possible to win an early diplomatic victory"

How is that? You get elected, and then what?...
I just got to propose all kinds of stupid actions... what's the catch?

I think actually built it on every game I played.

One fun part of the Aplostolic Palace is you can have a Holy War.

My first Holy War...

I never defeated 4 cities with so few units ... 2 macemen and 4 Cuirassiers. I was Zara (Ethiopian) and became part of a Holy war against Justinian. Charlemagne was nice enough to send a SoD made up of mostly catapults. I just followed from city to city. He bombed the city defense, them I cleaned up and took the city. I left a unit or two then followed the SoD to the next city. Hannabal had some scattered units to take out any loose units that Justinian tried to send out. We crushed him.

Because of the Aplostilic Palace, I was in Good standings with my neighbors, was able to wipe out the AI's I did not get along with, and became one of the largest, most powerful empires. All with a small military force.
