Applying Patches?

I just purchased a copy of Civ 4. It's awesome. I'm a little curious now about applying patches. Should I just go ahead and apply patch 1.74? Or should I apply the patches in order?

-Thx

Patches are cumulative so you can just install 1.74.

How do you install patches?

Either pick them up through the game (Advanced->Check for updates) which will autorun them for you or else download them to a folder and run the executable manually.

This is assuming you're not running the Mac version of Civ where a different method is required. Post in the Mac forum if you need to know how to do that.

You will probably be better off downloading the patch manually and then running it manually. Bear in mind that the 1.74 patch is just under 62 MB so it will take several hours if you are on dial-up. There is a link to the patches on the main page of this site.

I have all the patches i want to install on disk as zip files, i can extract them but I dont know what to do with the folder...

If the patches are anything like the ones I have then all the zip contains is an executable. It shouldn't matter which folder you extract the zip to; you just have to run the executable.

None of my files have a .exe

 So what do these patch zip files contain then?

EDIT: Perhaps you need to change your windows explorer settings so that you can see file extensions. (Tools -> Folder Options -> View and then uncheck the 'hide extensions for known file types' box.

I am trying to install Solvers Unofficial Patch and RFC B107

Solvers Unofficial Patch contains: AI_Defines.h, CvCity.cpp, CvCityAI.cpp, CvGameCoreDll.dll, CvGameTexMgr.cpp and abunch of things like that...

RFC B107 contains: a folder which contains: Assets, Public Maps, RFC_README.pdf, RFC.ini

Ah... light dawns. The OP of this thread was talking about Civ4 vanilla. You're talking about BTS as well as an unofficial patch and a mod.

As far as Solvers Unofficial patch is concerned here's a quote from that thread:

You may want to backup the old file just in case.

I would certainly backup the original CvGameCoreDll.dll first. You don't need the other files as they are only included so that people can recompile the CvGameCoreDll.dll if required.

As for RFC I grabbed this from the first post:

Install instructions: Download the latest version and extract it. It comes in a .zip file, so you should not require any extra software. Inside the newly created folder marked RFC_EPIC, there should be a folder marked Rhye's and Fall of Cvilization EPIC. Place this folder into your Civilization 4\mods folder. Start the game, choose load a mod, load Rhye's and Fall of Civilization EPIC from the menu, and enjoy.

However I see you're posting in that thread anyway for advice.
