April 10th: Almost died.

I'm glad you survived! Also that you can expect full recovery - that is amazing and awesome. The internet cares about you. :)

Another "if you don't mind my asking", how fast were each of you traveling?

And also:

Can I sig this?

Her speed was estimated at 65 mph.
Mine was estimated at 55 mph.

Yes, you can sig that.

Wow, John, that is a horror story with as Hollywood an ending for you as is possible outside California! I'm glad you made it, and especially that there will not be any lasting damage. Best wishes!

may I ask what car type you and her were driving? Can you estimate the speed difference?

I was driving a Chevrolet Lumina and she was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier. My speed was estimated at 55 and hers at 65 mph.

Cripes! Glad to hear you're going to be ok. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet in no time.

Sorry to hear about the other driver.

Have any of you been in a similar near death-type situation?

Have any of you been present when somebody died and did it bother you, at all?
Nothing as outragious as you have experienced. Closest thing for me would be passing out from the shock of a faulty opening from a parachute. But I came around in about 10 to 15 seconds. Imagine waking up, openeing your eyes, feeling a sharp pain in your neck and looking down on a couple of farms from 500 feet up.

I was never around when somebody died. Must be horrible :(

This is the best thing you want to hear whenever in an accident.

Anyway, wow. That is one banged-up car. Too bad your auto insurance sucks.

Well, I'd just be happy enough to be a pair of cock and balls walking around with nothing else left. As long as my junk is okay, I'm okay.

Those are truly wise words. :goodjob:

No and no. Had any unrepeatable, unconfirmable religious-type experiences we can all attack?

I didn't see Jesus or anything, if that is what you're asking, but I certainly felt the protection of divine providence over me.

Was this you? Small world, a friend of mine from Wilkes Barre drove by the scene and mentioned it, mostly because it looked like nobody was walking away. I remember it specifically because he mentioned the severe front end damage. He said it looked like a helluva suit for someone.

Glad to hear you made it out.

Woman Killed in Crash on Route 209 in Schuylkill Co.

State Police have identified the person killed in a head-on crash Friday afternoon in Schuylkill County. The wreck happened just before 2:00 p.m. on Route 209 in Schuylkill Township, between New Philadelphia and Tamaqua. 56 year-old Mary Hoysock of New York State was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say she was headed south, when she crossed lanes to try to pass another vehicle. That's when she hit the car of 27 year-old _______, from New Philadelphia. He was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, and is in critical condition tonight.

Yeah, that was me.

Schuylkill County. I like that name. I have no idea how to pronounce it.

110 mph translates to ~170 kph..... Be glad she had a Chevy, too. If you hit a more solid car at that speed.... :( I once saw a wreck where they later determined both cars had slowed to under 50 kph - both drivers died before aid got there.

Good God John, that looked nasty. It's great to hear you're making a full recovery, I wish you the best of luck for the future. And don't beat yourself up about the other driver, it wasn't your fault, there was nothing you could do.

Continue down the road to recovery.

I sincerely hope you get better. As for the questions in the OP, the closest I have been to (probably) being dead was a near miss by a motor vehicle while crossing a crowded road. And I have never been close (literally and figuratively) to someone who died, so I cannot quantify that experience.

Wow, bad crash . Glad to hear your okay, rest up and you'll be better in no time :D.

Glad you're ok and on your way to a full recovery.

I've had what I would call a few near death experiences during my stupider younger years, but nothing quite like this.

Wow, that's lucky.

Closest I've had to a near death experience was as a passenger in someone else's car, someone ran a red and only just missed the car I was in. If he hit, I was in deep trouble, as he was going to hit my side of the car.

I would have made a post, but I can't think of anything to say except good luck with the recovery.
