Is there a method of defeating an opponent early who just spams archers and fires hell from the safety of 2 tiles away?
Or at least how to counter this tactic; what is good against archer-spam?

The latter. Horse beats bow. Basic military tactics.

played a nice multiplayer match lastnight, the france player wrecked havoc with archers early and onword into the game, he never bothered me though as i rushed calvery into knights, when i ended up with muskettes and a few turns away from cannons he left the game, few things to remember in civ 6, never give up, if one invest alot into military early they will go bankrupt qute fast, you should know online you must have a sizeable enough army before you start going for sciene and culture stuff, you must be able to defend youre nation, also if they dont conqouer other cities and keep teching, they might end up with alot of units, but they will be guys with bows n clubs, so if you end up with tanks and planes gg.

so far i feel like brazil might need some balance tweaks, they seem to expand really fast and tech just as well.

my play time is limited though so this is just an opinion, doesnt make it fact.

What speed are on-line games played? After 7 years game free!!!, my son got me to play Civ 6....I enjoyed learning the game single player...brought back a lot of memories lol. So many memories that I've brought back my nick, "Bachelor Panda"!!! (That nick made top 10 as a tech'er in my CivRev days ;) Then I had to give in to the rush and modified my play and made top 5 with Damage002)

Anyway...I really enjoyed learning the new mechanics of Civ6 single player on Standard Speed....Now...trying to play "online" speed I am very disappointed. "Online" speed is not a game of Civilization. Not even close.

So, I guess my question is, are there any on-line games played at quick or standard speed?

    Thanks,

    BP

Most MP games I've seen are at online speed. Maybe because of real time to finish full game.
However, you can create and host a game at quick/standard if you prefer. :)

Try the Unit Rebalance Mod. It creates a scissors, paper, rock effect and makes all units pretty much equally useful.

Alternatively you could just advance and make them irrelevant, except as city garrisons.
