ARDA MOD
This is a project of create a mod about the LOTR, not just about the War of the Ring and the Third Age, but all the fantastic history since the War of the Gems in the First Age and the Fall of Númenor in the Second Age until the initial happenings of the Fourth Age. This will be a very interesting mod, with many new units, civs and options, but also its a huge and very complex project. The developing team is currently formed by Elda King, thomas.berubeg, Pariah, Death900, xmen510, ghandi_rules, but any help is welcome, from ideas and sugestions to direct help on the mod creation; in speacial, we really need a good programmer, and we can never have enougth modders.
We have a subforum for this mod in the Chamber of Records, a great forum dedicated to the works of J.R.R. Tolkien with emphasis to modifications about it - see my signature. In this subforum we discuss most of the technical part of this mod, and put most of the info about the mod, so this thread is most for sugestions and questions, and for contact with the Civ community.
Note: this mod is being devllopped for BTS
Features:
  • 18 all new civs and over 36 new leaders (Done)
  • Completely new tech tree, with tech quotes, new icons and race-specific techs(Almost Done)
  • New civics (Being worked)
  • Many new units, including a standart set of units (with racial variations) and some UUs with no equivalence with other civs
  • Many new buildings and wonders, some with new effects (Being worked)
  • A Hero system similar to FFH and FFH2, adapted to Middle-Earth
  • King units, exclusive of each leader and capable of combating or leading your army
  • New promotions, including exclusive powers of some units
  • Quests for Silmarils, optional quests hard to do but capable of greatly increase your power
  • The One Ring system, where The Shadow should build the Ring - that can be lost if Sauron is defeated, and must be found at any cost
  • And more - just wait and see!

Yeah, just came an idea, what about in some way getting contact whith the Valar... Then they will send reinforcement to aid in all the summoner civs war, like they did when eärendil came...

And they sended the Istaris to...

I have just seen this, but if you are looking to have a scenario based on your mod for the War of the Ring can I recommend to you all playing Harlan Thompsons "Lord of the Rings" scenario for Civ2 which was brilliant fun.

Can't really remember but I'm pretty sure I modded his mod some time ago to "improve" it too I thought it was that good.

A link to it:

It is one of my all time favorites.

The object is to get Frodo to Mount Doom and have him destroy the Ring.

It is extremely hard to win. Took me 5 tries at a lower difficulty level.

From the first turn it is total war of the 3rd Age. There are no front lines to start off with.

Rohan, Gondor (includes Hobbits, Dwarves, Eagles, Ents, etc.) and the Elves are allied against Mordor, Isengard, Haradrim and the Easterlings. All the heroes and villains are there.

I could babble on but never give the scenario justice.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page:

or go to eBay directly to find a copy of Civ II. I recommend the Multipayer Gold Edition. It's worth it just to be able play Harlan's scenario. There are also other Tolkien based scenarios worth checking out.

Just updated the first post (slightly)
please tell me if i misspelled a name, or forgot someone...

Hi guys,
I am curious about the effect of the fog of war in the game. Will there be anything like the huge fog of war that issues from mordor in the return of the king? or like that in the simarillion where there is the girdle of melian, or in LOTR with galadriel's fences in lorien? Elrond and Galadriel both mention that they cannot see through sauron's shadow. Also the Girdle of Melian is one of the major bonuses for Thingol's kingdom during the war of the simarils.

At most, we may give bonuses to units with a wonder (the Girdle of Melian will likely be a kind of Great Wall wonder) or event (dark fog from Mount Doom obscures the sun, all Beast units gain temporarily the ... promo).
