Are there any “recent” science discoveries that never went anywhere?

A few years ago, I read that Japanese researchers in the year 2000 had started to work on technology that could “read” a persons dreams. That was literally 25 years ago and we have no further outgrowths of this study. What other “recent” things did science uncover that we have yet to expand upon.

This should only be science from after 1995. Stuff like the Concorde faced other challenges.

I have turned to conspiracy theories for that haha
After all after the 20 century of the information era, now we are in the 21s the disinformation era.
I like to listen to Tin foil hat podcast.
