Are we growing insular and inbred in the OT?

For the past few months, I've noticed an increasing trend towards insularity and inbredness in the OTF. We're slowly losing touch, and the old spirit, which was much more friendly, is dying out.

and what do you mean exactly by 'old spirit'. There have always been 'unfriendly' threads right down to flamewars until mods step in. I don't see that this has changed much in the recent past. Maybe you have your nostalgia-glasses on?

Meh, I disagree. Evo vs Crea threads seem to have died down, and these were flame wars of the highest order.

Yeah, I actually agree with KaeptnOvi, Silver and Masque. I don't recall OT having ever been that friendly. When I arrived in the section in 2003, there were already people considering the good ol'days of the OT section to be gone. Well I guess it evolves, but more essentially, I think that we as individuals evolves even faster.

When I arrived in OT, I was still a student making great internships in International institutions, and I was convinced I knew everything about life. Nowadays, I'm just a poor hostess who realized that arrogance isn't a way of life. Well, we all evolve.

I'm sure you've all noticed how new people come in "waves." I've noticed that this last wave in particular are more hostile and, well, they behave like a bunch of DLs. I think that may be what's contributing to some degree to the growing suckiness of OT. But then, this waxes and wanes. In a few months everything will be as it was.

Personally, I think a good thread by Emperor Darkshade would fit the perscription nicely.

I have noticed a troubling increase in provincialism (and what many would refer to as racism) in the threads recently. But regardless, it's kind of hard to say whether the present OT is more or less of a certain something when our perceptions about the "old days" are always so horribly skewed with nostalgia.

Hey, thats partly why I like OT so much, in fact I sometimes feel uncomfortable when someone is nice to me here.

Thats one more person I can't be a jerk to, if the situation demands it (they say something really stoopid).
