Are Wonders buildings for purposes of the +20% Workshop bonus?

Are city shots Ranged Attacks for purposes of the promotion, +% versus Ranged Attacks?

Wonders do not count as buildings for the +20% workshop bonus. In addition, the Order social policy advantage of "+25% construction rate when constructing buildings" does not apply to wonders. Windmills, factories, and nuclear power plants do count though, since they're just +x% to production in general.

From the Civilopedia, "A city has a Ranged Combat Strength equal to its full Strength at the start of combat, and it has a range of 2." I would assume that this means it counts as a Ranged Attack, meaning the cover promotion applies. The only ranged attacks which might not be classified as Ranged Attacks are those of fighters, missiles, and bombers--the Civilopedia unfortunately doesn't appear to say anything in this matter.

Does anybody else feel like the city ranged attack seems weak compared to the listed strength? A strength 100 city does less damage than my artillery (no promotions). Feels like something is messed up here.

Indeed, I never figured out why it's so weak in comparison. My Barrage II promoted longbowman oneshotted a full hp spearman, while it would take a stength 18 city atleast 3 turns to do the same, probably longer

In addition, what are the real benefits from Garrisoning units? From my experience, you keep the archer/longbow/crossbow garrisoned, then use the city ranged attack, then select your garrisoned unit and use its ranged attack aswell. Is "City Garrison" a fancy word for letting a unit stay parked on the city tile or what? :crazyeye:

If you notice when you garrison a troop, the city combat score goes up. Use the troop to attack and it goes back down. The combat score isn't just for attacking, it determines the city's defense against attacks as well. I think it receives a heavy penalty for attacking, but the score is accurate for defense.

Yea' I've noticed that, and thats my point! :) You first use the city's ranged attack (while its still boosted by the garrisoned unit), then you use the garrisoned unit to attack again. Im pretty convinced this is not intentional, and if it is, it's just plain silly imo :crazyeye:

I haven't tried it out yet, but can you range attack with the city, un-garrison your unit and attack with it, then re-garrison your unit to give the city the extra strength on defense?

No, you can't re-garrison the unit after attacking with it, but the city had already benefit from the garrisoned unit when it used it's ranged attack.

1. City with garrisoned longbowman had a combat strength of 24, attacked a unit and inflicted 3 damage.
2. I un-garrisoned the longbowman, city combat strength dropped to 21, and i used the longbowman to attack another unit, and it inflicted 9 damage.

Ok, I see what you mean. How does defense work with a unit on the city tile rather than garrisoned? If you're much worse off with the unit sitting there than you would be with it garrisoned then I guess it's not too broken. Still it seems like attacking with the city with a garrisoned unit should exhaust the unit's ability to attack.

Oh, have you tried attacking with the str 21 city to see if the unit makes much of a difference on the ranged attack?

Yep, it did everything from 2-3 damage, the garrisoned unit doesnt seem to help the city very much, and is better off attacking by himself
