Arghhhh, why can't you edit existing saves in the world builder?

So, I am a big fan of historical realism and all that nonsense. I got a bright idea today that would bring an important element from RFC into Civilization V: historical spawn dates. Essentially just certain civilizations spawning in at the appropriate time. I was just gonna pick civilizations for certain eras (ie Ancient, Classical, Medieval, Industrial, ect) and spawn them in at the appropriate date. It seems as though I can only import a blank map into world builder and can't do any editing to the actual game. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

Anyone? Anyway to get existing saves into worldbuilder with units and cities, ect?

It can be done in Lua (loading all civs with the game, "killing" some at start, "resurrecting" them when needed), but I don't understand the link with editing a save game with WB (for a public release I mean, or was your question for private use ?)

No, just for private use. I don't have much experience in LUA , that's the main reason I thought WB would be easier. I don't mind learning new things, so LUA could be the way to go. Any suggestions?

you can see an example of use with city states in my Revolution mod.

WB would be easier for your use, but as you've seen it won't load a savegame...

Which part of the mod should I look at?

Wouldn't it be better to write some sort of map script that involves:

Killing the civs
Resurrecting them based on something?

nop, a map script is called only once when the game is initialized, you'll have to use an ingame Lua addin.

But I'll try the code I have already made almost 2 years ago (for Rhye and my own dynamic history project) to see if it's still working, update it if needed, then post it, as I won't be able to release my full project *soon*... (but I will surely open a development & design thread asap)

I'd greatly appreciate it.

Care to elaborate on your project? I see you also have a revolutions mod going, but it has issues of slowing down the game. Something to do with combining all of those?
