Can anyone explain why a ship of a decidedly 19th Century style is placed in the modern era next to destroyers and battleships? Really needs to be reworked, or replaced. Honestly naval units in this game have always been lackluster.
VP community has moved away from thematic accuracy of unit appearances in the techtree and timeline for gameplay reasons. Note that we also have calendar archers and philosophy triremes etc. I and probably about 40% of the community agree with the concern, however its a majority rules thing.
Its the entire naval game imo -- the terrain is completely flat, there are relatively few gameplay objectives, the units compete directly with much more useful land units. Having a unit appear slightly earlier or later doesn't really improve this aspect of the game imo.
Having said all this, the specific suggestions for how to improve are equally lacking. Easy to criticize, much trickier to find a solution. Swapping or moving units around is a relatively trivial task if that's all you're after, couple lines of sql max.
Are you referring to the new naval units added by the Enhanced Naval Warfare mod that got recently integrated?
Afaik none of its added units look... old as you said.
