Ruler
Your name should be something like "Bohemond of Taranto" or something. Your surname should be the county/duchy of your inheritance. If you would like to put a title in front of it, such as "William the Carpenter, of Melun" that would be alright, too.
Treasury
The amount of gold bars (GB) you have to spend. You can only spend the money that is in the treasury. You cannot spend money as it is being collected, as in other NESes.
Economy
The first number is your spring income, the second is your fall income. Commercial taxes, and rents are usually collected in the spring. Harvest taxes in the fall.
You can collect emergency taxes. This will bring in anywhere from half to full annual income at the cost of 1 stability.
The currency in this game is in gold bars (GB).
Stability
Goes from -3 to 3. The higher the number, the more secure your position as lord of your realm is. As it goes lower, your vassals may plot to overthrow you or maybe the peasants end up getting tired of your garbage and revolt. To increase this rating, you must use your pacification imagination.
Knights
This is the number of knights you have at your disposal to call on in times of need. Knights come with 2-4 men-at-arms a piece and are bound by their oath to defend your body and honor. This means that they will not require you to pay them for defensive war. They are not REQUIRED to campaign with their lord on offensive warfare, but will usually do so, so long as their liege take them into his pay for the length of the campaign. If you call up your knights to campaign in foreign lands, expect to pay them 1 GB per 50 knights every season. Failure to pay will most likely result in knights going home, so that they're not upkeeping their men-at-arms from their own pocket.
Soldiers
These are troops under your direct control, upkept regularly by you. This is the closest thing to a standing army (though expensive). For every 50 troops, you will pay 1 GB in the winter. This will cancel out 1 winter income, or if there is no winter income generated, will be taken from your treasury. A number in perinthesis will be shown to remind the player of the upkeep. You may pay 1 GB to raise 50 more soldiers.
Ships
There are 2 ship types, a cog and a war galley. A cog is a trade or transport ship. A war galley is used to crush naval opponents. You may buy 2 cogs or 1 galley for 1 GB.
For every 6 cogs, or 3 galleys, you will pay 1 GB in upkeep every winter.
Quality
This is the quality of your troops. This is increased as your soldiers or ships fight in battles and live through the ordeal. This is an average number, and the base quality is 1, so if you recruit 50 troops to an army of 50 (doubling it's size) and your soldiers had a quality of 4, you would effectively reduce your overall quality to 2.
Vassals
This will be a list of other lords that have formally pledged fealty to you, and are bound by feudal contract to come to your defense (and vice-versa).
Fortresses
These will be on the map as a little black dot. Obviously these will be tough nuts to crack. Every lord will start with one. To build a fortress will cost 5GB. For every 2 fortresses in your personal domain, it will run you 1 GB every winter for upkeep. This number is rounded down, so if you have 3 fortresses, you will still pay 1 GB every winter. Castles have their own garrison troops that cannot be called on. (Hence the upkeep)
Starting out
You may start anywhere.... In the region I have posted. You will be playing the role of a medieval lord. You may post a family tree, if you'd like (and it will be added to your template). This is a fresh start, so we will not be taking into account the actual politics of the day. The only exception to this will be the muslim, pagan, and byzantine factions, which will never be playable by the players.
Right now only France is open for players to join as. I only need 5 players for France. If you wish to join, and France is already at 5 players. NPC factions will be added on update one (posted 11/14 at 11PM central). To join, just post your template with your lord's name, and give me a location for your first fort which will be the seat of your government.
If you are interested in this NES, please do not be discouraged if all the slots are filled up. There will be additional slots opening at all times.
The starting date will be Spring 1000
Orders and updates
Every RL day a season will progress in the NES. If there is a day when I cannot update, a season will still have progressed, and it will be seen as a sort of "BT". I will do my best, however, to make sure that an update is up every night in the wee hours of the night. (in the 11PM to 4AM central US range haha)
POST YOUR DOMESTIC, DIPLOMATIC, AND MILITARY ORDERS ON THE THREAD Exceptions being covert actions (like arson or raids or something).
Specials
You may make improvements to your castles... So far the improvements that have been made and are available to lords to make are as follows...

Vineyard(Costs 2)[Raises Fall income by 1]
Coastal
Dockyards(Costs 2)[Raises Spring income by 1]
General

You may only have 1 of each special type per Castle. So if you have 2 castles, you may have 1 type of farm in one and another type of farm in the other, but you may not have 2 of the same type of farm in 1 castle. As the game progresses, and the players fool around with stuff, more specials may be made.
