It's my impression England has no problems at all to score runs. Cook, Collingwood and Bell are all big plusses when compared to last year's ashes. Maybe they didn't face any bowlers like McGrath, Lee, Tait or the great Shane Warne, but there is defenitely progress.

It's all about bowling. If Jones and Flintoff are fit, England have a more than decent chance. Panesar might be a pain the Australia arse. And what to do if both Panesar and Giles show great form? Use both of them and drop Hoggard! There's no cricket law that forbids two spin bowlers!

What are the chances for Simon Jones to be fit anyway?

He seems to think he has a chance, not sure anybody else agrees though...

I'm not seriously expecting him to play. I'm just hoping Flintoff can make it...otherwise...

Well they just blew away pakistan to take a 2-0 lead with one game to go.

    Pluses
Chris Read played flawlessly. Missed nothing and scored important runs. Panesar continues to develop and takes wickets on any surface.
Mahmood showed some promise - real pace and bounce and he canreverse the ball. 4 for 22 in the second innings.
    Batsmen are all scoring.
    Catches get taken
Fielders hit the stumps when they need to..

    Minuses
    Hoggard doesnt look fit.
Harmison needs the right surface to take wickets.
Someone has to make way for Freddie.
    Captaincy not settled.

Gonna be closer than I thought.

Mahmood bowled well today but i fear he isnt particularly consistent.

Still, England's chances in the Ashes look better than they did a few weeks ago, the performances against Pakistan overall have been pleasing.
