Hello everyone, this is CE, one of many Kentuckians on this board. Kentucky is a nice state contrary to what many people think. And I enjoy living here. I was born here, spent all but 2 years of my life in this state, and since I will most likely be going to college in-state, I should remain in Kentucky for the next 5 years at least.

If you are curious about what Kentucky is like or anything like that, this is a thread for you.

Do people still fight the Civil War in Kentucky the way they do in deep-south states?

I understand you guys make fried chicken

Not nearly to the same extent. There are Neo-Confederates, especially in the southern part of the state. However, there is also an obsession with Abraham Lincoln by a lot of people as he was born here.

Yes we do! I love KFC!

Yes, I visited the museum in a corner of the state (near Virginia and Tennessee, I think) one afternoon. That's as much as I've ever seen of Kentucky, I'm afraid.

What do you like best about your state?

Living in Kentucky, it comes as a surprise to you when, as a young boy, you go on a trip across the country for the first time and see that KFC's are in Georgia and Florida. I remember saying "Why are they calling it a KFC? This is Florida. That should be an FFC."

I like the people of Kentucky, they tend to be a humble, down-to-earth kind of people. I like how it has a mix of Northern and Southern culture (and tends to have the good parts of each). I like how there are distinct seasons, warm in the summer, cold in the winter, I can't stand the unbearable heat in the southern states.

In short, its a very unique place.

Just North of Louisville, and yes, there was a referendum in 2005 (I think) which made my county a wet county.
Ah, cool. I grew up in southern Indiana (near Madison) so I know your area decently well.

I really like Kentucky, even if it's a fun target for jokes at the same time. It's interesting how diverse it is - Louisville, Lexington, and their suburbs are nice cities, better than most similar-sized places in the Midwest. But drive about an hour east or south of Lexington and you enter one of the poorest and most misunderstood areas of the US. Beautiful state all around. :goodjob:

Is bluegrass all that prevalent?

I like Kentucky, but I'm not really sure why. It's just home I suppose. Where most of my friends are. I've spent my whole life here, I suppose on the western half? My home is in Owensboro but I'm going to college at Western right now about an hour south. For me the best thing about Kentucky is that it's not any of the states south of Kentucky. I'd hate to live somewhere any hotter than it already is here. And I guess it's not really that it's super hot here all the time. I just do a lot better in cold. I sometimes joke that I was really meant to be born in Greenland or Finland or something. Also I don't think I'd want to live anywhere that is any more bible-belty than here.

Whenever I think about how bad Kentucky ranks on certain things such as dental hygiene, obesity, etc... I find myself joking "The only reason Kentuckians can sleep at night is because of Mississippi". Sorry Mississippi folk >_>

Hey, I'm still fighting it from New York:p

Positive or negative obsession?(:mischief:)

How did KY come up with the greatest state motto ever?

It didn't. New Hampshire's is "Live free or die". I don't think anywhere beats that:p

What is the point of Kentucky?

Cincinnati:

Part of Kentucky or Ohio?

(Ohioians north of Washington Court House rightfully declare it to be part of Kentucky)
