Just cracked a Baltika. Was planning celebrating lockdown reduction level now commiserating 4 day extension.

 

She killed grandad everything was cooked in lard or butter. Heart attack got him.

 

Babuska cooking is ideal for the Russian winters but not so great for our modern society
Also given how much your drink, Maybe the cause of the heart attack is Vodka

 

Probably be a contributing factor.

Well, this question may have already been asked but I don't feel like reading through 148 pages

So, as a person with Ukrainian heritage, I would like to know what the antipathy towards Ukrainians is based on? My grandfather told me some of the history before he died but I would like to hear the opinions of some Russians on this board.

 

There is no antipathy towards Ukrainians in general. Except for nationalists who see Russians as the source of all evil things, but they are minority.
I personally know several Ukrainians and like their culture and people.

 

Generally Belorussians, Russians and Ukrainians are seen as part of the same "core" together with 100's of other different ethnicities/nationalities that live, work and fight the same. Ukrainians have a reputation of being good managers, occupying for example quite a few of those positions in the soviet army. Ukraine being an agrarian land (in many ways similar to Russia) has produced the stereotype of peasants that care of nothing but their own household. This mentality is at the core of nationalists in the West of the country that have their own version of the Ukrainian language and that fight with their neighbours: Poles, Jews and Russians. Granted people with those views are not very liked in Russia. Everyone else is generally judged according to their character and no Ukrainian stands out in a crowd more than say a Russian from the other region or anybody else. There's never been an antipathy of Ukrainians in general and recent conflict is a failed attempt to make someone's ideas into reality. Not happening.

Although, of note, if you are of a "Ukrainian heritage" you are and you will be treated as a Westerner. No one will care (much) that you have Ukrainian ancestry if you look, talk and walk like an Westerner.

I can tell on sight the difference between a German, Frenchman and an Englishman for example, it's a game we often play with tourists here

Not at all obviously, we're used to interacting with all of them.

I was making a point that someone with a "heritage" mentality would not be seen as part of the EE, but rather as part of the "West" and therefore even on that basis alone there should not be any concerns for an antipathy.
